RUGBY league great Johnathan Thurston has been arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour in Brisbane's CBD.

Police said he and two others including Nathan Daley and Willie Tonga were "behaving in a disorderly manner'' in George Street near the Treasury Casino about 4.15am.

Police spoke to the group and they laughed at the officers, before walking towards a taxi rank.

Thurston and Daley are then alleged to have wrestled each other on to the roadway, ending up on top of the taxi.

Police said the pair was then arrested "for their own safety''.

"Both were grossly intoxicated,'' said an officer.

"Nobody minds people going out and having a good time, but when they're spoken to by police they really need to pull their heads in.''

He said once the men were arrested they started behaving.

They will be held at the Brisbane City Watchhouse until their blood alcohol reading falls below 0.05.

Both are expected to be charged with public nuisance.

a crime worthy of 10 years!

seriously, did the media really need to write about this?

They should check out the Valley. It's feral. People spitting at taxis going past, people throwing up everywhere and throwing stuff at taxis. Queenslanders…

The usual subects are out to defend the grub….priceless..

JT did nothing that blokes on a night out wouldn't do but you know what they say...

Karma's a hell of a leveller...

That's the key bit. It may have been "harmless fun" but being an NRL player doesn't give you the power to refuse a police officer's directions. Overzealous? Sounds like they were blocking traffic and I'm sure the taxi owner didn't think it was too harmless having these idiots on top of his car. Simple facts are, they were acting like pork chops, the coppers told them to pull their heads in, they ignored the police, they got pinched. Sounds good policing to me…

Not crime of the century but from the revealed facts, the officers in question acted entirely appropriately.

A good Cop would of grabbed them, taken them a few blocks down the road and told them to behave while dropping them off…

But why should they have to? Thurston et al had every chance to get out of this. They're cops not parents. Thurston and friends did the wrong thing and got pinched. Not the cop's fault, Thurston's…

I mean seriously he had a few beers and then to top it of he had a wrestle, I'm really shocked by this…they really should hang him for this and I mean literally, it's time to bring back capital punishment.

The media is a deadset joke isn't it?

What a nothing story.

I go out with some mates, get drunk and get told off by a copper, nobody cares
Thurston goes out with some mates, gets drunk and gets told off by a copper, it's RL in crisis.

Tall poppy syndrome at its finest, and anybody suggesting anything different is a moron.
