"Playing well in a team of superstars". Ie, he plays well when he's got good people around him. Which is roughly the same thing as saying he plays badly with a bad team. Maybe it's not him, it's just that they're not a good team?

That's exactly what I'm saying. The elite players play well even when the rest of the team isn't. Thurston has been average all year except game II and III.

Fair enough, but I think that's a bit of a generalization. IMO, there are very few people who can still stand up underneath a bad team. Farah can, as this year has shown us, but not everyone can. I don't reckon Hayne necessarily has been on fire this year but I don't put that down to him being out of form or a bad player, I put it down to the Eels being terrible generally.

I urge you to watch more cowboys games if you don't already, he is WAY down on form for whatever reason. If you can't see that you either aren't watching enough or you're blind.

On current form he IS overrated. He's not the most overrated ever but he's currently struggling for consistency. Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't consistency the main attribute which separates a good footballer from a great footballer?

His legacy might be tarnished if this decline continues.

Class??? LOL there was a reason the bulldogs got rid of him back in 04, I won't even say what it was as it's not allowed here.

also as I said before the cowgirls almost made the grand final showing guts in 04 before Thurston was even in the team. the tigers are one team who always knows how to stop this guy and always shut him out!

Gee I hate Queensland but Thurston is an amazing player. I disagree it is his fault the Cows are going so bad. Usually he's the only one doing anything. It's not like he gets much help - Lui seems to have gotten worse since he got up there and the others (Ray Thompson et al) are more in the solid rather than dangerous category.

I'd also say that although he comes across as a bit of a knob on the field at times I've heard him do some good things with young fans and he seems to like having a laugh.

Agreed. Find it amazing people think he is over rated. If I was to sign one player to replace benji it would be him, not cronk or any other. He can be a tool on the field, but its because he loves to win, and always puts his all in and body on the line. Heard he is great with fans as well.

An awful side? That's a bit rich; quite a few thought the Cowboys looked the strongest chance this year. I am still stunned at their under-performance given the personnel on board. Clearly Thurston has been a part of that. In the Cows games I have watched this year he has been pretty average.
