Wests Tigers and Campbelltown Advertiser Newspaper are again proud to bring you a weekly player column for 2013.
The column appears each Wednesday throughout the season as part of the Advertiser's weekly 'Tiger Talk' feature.
New recruit Braith Anasta kicked the ball off this week.
TIGER TALK
'How good is it to have footy back?
Like all supporters, it is a tremendous feeling to know that the greatest game of all is back on. It is an old cliché but rugby league will be bigger, better and even more faster than ever before .
For me, it is a new chapter. I’m very excited to be at Wests Tigers, a club I feel has always had the players and coaching staff to really be a force in the premiership.
Despite the ‘experts’ already writing us off, the team is confident of a very successful season under new coach Mick Potter.
So how has life been for me since arriving at Wests Tigers? It has been very enjoyable. To be honest, I feel like I am starting all over again. I’m at a new club, wearing a new jersey (I have got used to the colour change now!), and a new team environment.
The spirit within the club is very positive. Our trial form was mixed but does anyone really remember who beat who in pre-season trials come the end of the season? I certainly don’t. Trials are just that – trials. It is a chance for players at new clubs like me to form some combinations with the team-mates, to get vital match fitness, and importantly, get through the games injury free.
For me, Monday night can’t come quick enough. It is certainly a tough game first up, tackling Newcastle at home in front of their vocal army of supporters. But as a player, you love that type of atmosphere. We are ready for the task ahead.
It will be great to get out on the field too, given the circumstances that the club has faced in the past week following the tragic death of one our terrific young forwards in Mosese Fotuaika.
Training with Mosese over summer, I found him to be a quiet but politeful young man who trained hard and was on the verge of making his NRL debut. To pass away at the age of 20 is very sad. Mosese will always be in our hearts and minds.
That’s it for me for my first column in Tiger Talk. I look forward to writing this column on a monthly basis and bringing you an insight into the team.
Before I go, a big thank you to all the Wests Tigers fans who have made feel welcome at this club. I’m proud to be a Wests Tigers player and like I’ve always done, I will give my all and wear the jersey with pride. See you at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Sunday, March 17, for our first home game against Penrith.
