Tigers and Storm Player Loan Swap

If the swap is done surely Momirovski doesn’t play this week. Sign him up for another year and get it done.

Bugger I was hopeing to have him for this weekend

Seems like storm are waiting for Brandon Smith to be fit before releasing Grant. Hopefully nothing stops it this time around

I heard a little birdie say next Monday ??

Don’t give him his debut guernsey yet but there’s also a very real whisper he’s signing on for years... couldn’t get JAC, so next best

So if he signs for at least a couple of years with Wests Tigers what is the club going to do with Simpkins, Liddle and Walters? Seems like a big waste of CAP money and space to me.

Walters can play cc with liddle
Grant and Simpkins are the future
Sounds really harsh but we can keep grant at our club we will have one of the best hookers in the NRL

Here's the million-dollar question - if Grant comes and slots into starting hooker, do you choose JRey or Billy Walters on the bench? Walters is a legit half and, as far as I've seen, a decent hooking option. I can't see why you'd choose JRey except for experience; I think B Walt is a superior bench option, to sub in for Grant.

Walters could go alright at 6, seeing as that is his natural position, he could be our 6 for next year, would like him to get a run there to see how he goes.

*Historic Tigers-Storm loan deal to happen for round three

After countless false starts, the NRL is about to get it’s first player “loan” arrangement.

Melbourne hooker Harry Grant is set to be traded for Wests Tigers centre Paul Momirovski in time for them to be available for their new clubs in round three. However, there is one last twist befitting a saga that has dragged on for months.

Momirovski is keen to return to the Tigers at the end of the current season and his management is holding out for a contract extension before agreeing to the swap. The Tigers have been given until Friday to sign a new two-year deal for Momirovski or risk the swap once again unravelling.

Complicating the issue is the fact the coronavirus outbreak has clouded the market worth of all players given they may need to take a pay cut if the 2020 competition is contracted or cancelled altogether. However, the parties are expected to strike an arrangement.

The NRL is satisfied the teams would be salary cap compliant if the swap goes ahead after initially blocking the move over a $15,000 discrepancy in the players’ salaries. The move is being fast-tracked after a faster-than-expected recovery from Storm utility Brandon Smith, who is expected to return from a fractured cheekbone in round three.

Brandon Smith will provide cover for champion No.9 Cameron Smith, freeing Grant to get valuable first-grade experience at the Tigers not possible this season in Victoria.

The Storm view Grant as a long-term replacement for Cameron Smith and the youngster has a get-out clause in his contract if Smith doesn’t retire at the end of the season. That will prompt Melbourne to make an early call on Cameron Smith’s future to provide clarity over whether his understudy stays put.

Grant is now set to be in the unique position of replacing legendary rakes Robbie Farah and Cameron Smith in successive seasons, a huge task for a player with just two NRL appearances to his credit. However, good judges believe he has the potential to become one of the best dummy halves in the game.

Grant is expected to watch his Storm teammates take on Cronulla at Kogarah on Saturday night and then remain in Sydney to link up with the Tigers immediately afterwards.

Speaking to the Herald last month, a frustrated Grant said he hoped a temporary move to the Tigers would eventually happen.

'I need to play footy': Grant asks Storm for release to join Tigers
Add to shortlist
“For my development, I believe the next step for me is to play NRL and unfortunately I won’t get too many games at Melbourne,” Grant said.

“What I need now development-wise is to play footy at a higher level at NRL. I might have to chase that elsewhere and the Tigers is a good opportunity for both parties."*

I wonder if their is a recall clause in the contract ...if Cam Smith went down for example

EPL sometimes do ....sometimes don't ....depends obviously where this player sits on the food chain

I'm wondering what happens next year if Cam Smith wants to continue playing.
Grant has a getout clause , we would be in a good position to keep him or even snag Cam Smith for a year.
As cringeworthy as that may be.

I don’t think they’ll do it as complicated as the EPL, the NRL couldn’t handle it. Think he’ll be here the rest of the season no matter what.

I imagine our contract would be one year, but would have a condition that if Cam smith plays on then it activates a clause for a further 2 year extension (equivalent to his current deal at melbourne)

Well it wouldn't be complicated ...Smith is out for an extended period and they can recall Harry

Guessing he will have to be rested when we actually play the Storm

So, seems like it's finally happen. Do we think Momo drops out of the 17 the week then?

Would be complicated for the NRL though. To be honest I doubt either of those clauses are written in to the contract, I feel like Madge wouldn’t want them in there.

Well seeing that exact cause for deal going down in the 1st place was Momo's injury ....

But that proves how amateur hour clubs really are ...if this was EPL neither player would have played a game while the deal went down

It was reported weeks ago that for the loan to happen both clubs would have to release the player from their current contract, then they can change clubs this year before taking up new contracts next year. If that is still the case there is no way they could be swapped back before the end of the year.

I think you've answered your own question here and to me it's a no brainer. Reynolds has to have the season off as Canterbury cup isn't going ahead.
