Wests Tigers 2017 Playing Roster Changes

Wests Tigers can confirm the following NRL roster changes for the 2017 season with pre-season training now underway.

Following on from the addition of Jamal Idris, Wests Tigers can also confirm the signing of hooker Matt McIlwrick from the Cronulla Sharks.

The 25-year-old has played 29 NRL games across three Clubs since making his first-grade debut in 2012 for the Canberra Raiders.

Wests Tigers have also re-signed a number of existing players, with Jack Littlejohn, Justin Hunt and Rod Griffin agreeing to new contracts with the NRL squad.

Forwards Matt Eisenhuth and Wesley Lolo also join the full-time extended NRL squad on new deals, alongside a host of talented Holden Cup graduates.

Wests Tigers can also confirm the departure of Chance Peni, Tyler Cassel and Dallas Graham, who were off contract at the end of 2016 and not re-signed. Nathan Milone, who was a member of the NRL squad in 2016, has also re-signed but on a part-time contract.
 
I wonder if that is it for 2017?? Would love a NRL quality signing, either a outside back that can kick, or a quality second rower, but guess that is not going to happen.

My heart is telling me we are going to have a really good year, my brain is not so convinced.
 
I still think our year will be decided by how quick the top 4 get re-signed. If this drags on it could really derail our season.

Am I right in understanding that there is effectively four tiers as follows?:

Top 25
State Cup - Full time contract
State Cup - Part time contract
NYC

Willing player and always gives his all. But probably always a little on the light side to make it as a first grade backorder. Probably should have tried to transition to a hooker years ago.
 
I'm not so sure, but I suspect if we do get anyone else it will be a bargain player who falls out of favour at their current club.
 
When they say the full time extended NRL squad, is that the 25 man squad proper, and we won't have to use the second tier cap to play them?

Its a bit concerning tbh, not much changing personnel wise... Oh well, not surprising
 
Not a bad squad - don't think anyone that was being realistic, thought that there would be a much different squad than last year. Jamal, Elijah and Liddle were more than worthwhile signings, a lot of the youngsters that have moved up are a chance to be good ones, at least they get the chance to perform at a higher level and learn.

We got rid of some dead wood which can strengthen the Tigers overall. We have also not gotten into anymore problems with back ended contracts (at least I don't think we have) or spent money we do not have.

It is the outcome we had to have at this stage - so that all stops are out for 2018.

In the meantime we make do with what experience we have, youngsters gaining more experience, hopefully very few injuries and more emerging talent until we can afford a couple of biggies for the following year.

Looking forward to more improvement as a team, individual players, on the ladder and off the field in many ways.
