Tigers faction sounded out Stuart

THE faction trying to get rid of Tim Sheens from the Wests Tigers failed in a secret play to bring Ricky Stuart to the club - but they live in hope of moving Sheens to the Warriors. The big problem is the Tigers can't afford the $1 million payout to Sheens, who is contracted until the end of 2014\. There was a quiet push to bring Stuart to the club before the NSW coach signed with the Eels last month with the idea that Sheens could be placed at Parramatta. Those pushing for that to happen now admit they moved way too slowly. Sheens is not unpopular with the Tigers players and is still considered an excellent coach - there's just a feeling it may be time for a new voice at the club. The usual suspects, including ex-St George Illawarra mentor Nathan Brown and Royce Simmons, are getting a mention at the Tigers. Sheens negotiated a deal worth about $600,000 to stay with the joint-venture club - he is set to receive a 75 per cent payout if his contract is terminated early. The move to place him at another club is designed to lighten the financial burden on the Tigers, who would then need a new coach. The fact the Tigers can't afford to pay him out shows they have some money issues and Sheens has been forced to work under that constraint. Sheens remains confident he has board support.

There's the reason why sheens will be at the tigers next year. They cannot afford to get rid of him. I think if they had the cash he would be sacked by now.

And we are the ones left to suffer through a poor deal by a CEO who thinks changing a gym around is refreshing and a Coach who has zero accountability.

I think Ricky Stuart would have been a disaster, so at least that was avoided.

With the number of injuries for long periods that we had this year, it was a miracle we were still in the eight three rounds out from the play offs. We were robbed against the Bulldogs, then Robbie broke his hand and Liam got injured. The team that took the field against the Storm was the worst team we had put on the field all year (minus Farrah, minus Fulton).

I agree that we need a new voice in the club, maybe a stronger assistant coach, but most of what caused our problems this year were things beyond Sheens' control.

Disagree, his constant 3-4 positional changes for 1 injury hurt us more than our injury toll should have.

I don't believe the whole "we can't afford to pay out his contract" rubbish
Isn't the 5th richest man in Australia a mad tigers fan & our main backer?

Every other club pays the out going coach their contract, why are we any different?

Yeah, and the fifth richest man in Australia is a Tim Sheens fan.
And the fifth richest man in Australia didn't become the fifth richest man in Australia by throwing money away on a whim.

Well it seems the nightmare of 2012 will continue into 2013\. Iam not sure I buy the story but Iam afraid Sheens looks like he is set in concrete for another year. Love the one how the players love him, they never get dropped and they are unaccountable, thats why they love him.

We would of been no better off with Ricky Stuart IMO.

He would of just pulled the pin when times got tough - just like he did at Cronulla
