Not sure what you mean there… they are? So are you?

I was trying to get a point across, of the game should come first.

Recent media info appears that Murdoch is annoyed because he didn't get his own way.

Maybe Dave Smith from NRL, did the deal with ch 9 to release the stranglehold that Foxtel has on coverage of the game. So more people are able to watch more games on free to air t.v.

Not everyone is able to have Foxtel. I am lucky enough to have Foxtel, so either way I am covered.

As a fan of NRL, aren't you concerned that some clubs believe that they are stakeholders and should be given more financial benefit, and input on how the game is run, than others.

Shouldn't the financial case be all equal across all teams competing.

I was talking to Sirro.

All good.
No worries, no offence taken or intended.
I re read myfirst post and realised that I probably, should explain it a bit better.

No its actually the opposite. The clubs want each and every club to be given an even distribution of funds. They want each and every clubs football expenses paid for by the game via the broadcast deal.

None of these 12 clubs are trying to get anything more than anyone else.

Murdoch is not upset that he didnt get his own way, Foxtel and Telstra are furious they were not even given a chance to present their offers.

Its all well and good to support the governing body, but the governing body has screwed this broadcast deal and like any big business will be held accountable for these actions.

Well Fairfax are hardly going to write a puff piece about poor old Rupert are they?

Obvious that the News Limited journos are on the warpath, doesnt make it untrue though.

Gus Goukd , recently on twitter.
Phil Gould AM
NRL documented more than 35 meetings and calls they had with Fox and News .. Sounds like consultation to me.

That's the boss of one of the clubs planning to stay up the rebel comp. Lol.
Good luck to you if you believe crap by the likes of Rebecca Wilson.

It is difficult to believe there are some in the game that think a breakaway will be of some benefit. Such a move would surely only contribute to the game losing more support than gaining it.

That's why is not real, it's not happening. Next time you read an article have a look at who wrote it.

Yes that does calm the situation but it still doesnt make it all well and good.

There is still a 1.6 billion dollar difference between the NRL and AFL deals and News Limited are annoyed and are not going to cough up top dollar for the four worst games of the round.

This is a long way from over, i wouldnt let a hatred of all things News Limited get in the way of that.

I don't get how Smith saw it in the NRLs best interests to negotiate with nine and stuff the rest unless he has something else up his sleeve or he is incompetent. If he is incompetent, then back to the old dart for him and take Grant on a long holiday as well.

My thoughts on another break away league?

I couldn't care less anymore.

On second thoughts, it will be good I think. We need a proper national competition with less teams in Sydney and that will never happen with this mob.

I agree. It's going to be a while before we see if Smith had done a good job or not.
But this break away comp is utter crap. Their CEO in the AFL press conference said they would push AFL over NRL and they've already started. You gotta keep that in mind when reading anything from a news employee.

Following RL has been a bit of a failure really.
No major sport has gone through this much change.
I followed it as a kid in good faith because amongst other things i was interested in the history and traditions of clubs.

We are just cannon fodder supporting their business till they dispose of us for others.

A real failure.

He is also a commentator on Ch 9 so why should we believe him.

You missed the point. Why would the boss of a team that news say is trying to start a rebel comp publicly back Smiths handling of the rights deal? Only in the corridors of news ltd does that make sense.

Maybe i was too hasty. I didn't realize the waratahs were quiting the NRL aswell. This changes everything.

Don't give them up Ink. Rothfield just spent 3 hrs wiring up the story, he'll be spewing when he finds out its a mistake.

Phil Gould has laughed this suggestion off.

Basically News Ltd are upset with Dave Smith, so via their newspapers they are having a tantrum & throwing their toys out of the cot.

When push comes to shove Foxtel will pay whatever they have to for the NRL rights. Otherwise they can say goodbye to most of their subscriptions in NSW and QLD.

There is more chance of us making the top 4 this year, than the is of another breakaway league taking place anytime soon.

Don't know how many times it has to be said…WESTS Tigers owe no debt to the NRL...zero....It is not an NRL board...

That's right Geo, but I'm pretty sure that we have signed the playing agreement already along with Titans, Dragons and , And, I think, the Knights. The other 14 clubs haven't .
