Tigers hope injured Tuqiri will play

Wests Tigers officials remain hopeful of having Lote Tuqiri back on deck this weekend despite the dual international limping off just minutes into his comeback against Newcastle.

Tuqiri was named on the wing for Sunday's trip across the Tasman to face the Warriors, with his availability pending a fitness test on Thursday after injuring his ankle in Monday night's win over the Knights.

The veteran flyer had been making his comeback from a broken arm against the Knights before falling awkwardly in the opening minutes at Leichhardt Oval.

Tuqiri underwent scans on Tuesday, with Tigers officials holding out hope he had only suffered a bad sprain.

There was no room for young centre Tim Simona, who made an impressive NRL debut against the Knights, with Wade McKinnon returning to the side after overcoming a hamstring injury.

While pleased with securing the golden point win over the Knights, Tigers coach Tim Sheens said his team would have to improve if it was to topple the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium.

"The middle of the second half (against the Knights) we were terrible - too many errors, to many forced passes and that in turn puts pressure on our defence.

"Their attitude was great - they hung in and hung in and we finally executed and got the result but we're putting too much pressure on ourselves with the mistakes."

The Warriors welcome back Lance Hohaia from injury, his return helping compensate for the loss of Aaron Heremaia with a hand injury.

We all know what happened to Moltzen last year when he should have been rested. If Tuqiri plays, I hope he is 100% fit.

Apparently it's a sprained ankle, no ligament damage. Lote will have a fitness test on Thursday.

Can't be fair dinkum, the way he limped out of Leichhardt Oval on Monday night, on crutches, didn't look like he would be able to run for a while.

couldnt believe he was named actually. even if it were a stubbed toe i would give him the trip to nz off…
speaking of which, is it the plan for the tiges to "accidentally" give mackinnon the wrong return flight details?! that way he can spend time at home before heading off to the uk...
seriously, hes a good fullback, but his hammy is made of chewing gum.....

Ankle injury sidelines Tuqiri for a month
Glenn Jackson, Lee Gaskin

>
WESTS TIGERS have been handed a significant blow with winger Lote Tuqiri likely to be sidelined for at least a month due to his ankle injury.
>
Tuqiri damaged his ankle just six minutes into the Tigers' clash with Newcastle on Monday night - his return match from a broken arm - and while he was subsequently named to play the Warriors in Auckland on Sunday, scan results have ended any chance of that. The scans show Tuqiri suffered a high ankle sprain, which could keep him out for up to six weeks.
>
It was hoped that the damage was not as bad as first thought when Tuqiri was taken from the field, but he will have to wear a support boot for the next three weeks, which suggests he will be sidelined for a month at least. The Australian representative was playing just his fourth match of the season in his comeback game on Monday.
>
At least he will be able to develop full confidence in his arm, which was broken in round three against Canberra. Tuqiri's return against the Knights had countered the loss of his replacement on the left-wing, Matt Utai, who also broke his arm, against St George Illawarra in round 12.
>
The Tigers have had a wretched run with injuries but had hoped to be turning the corner after key second-rower Gareth Ellis (ankle) also returned against the Knights. Todd Payten (ankle) and Chris Lawrence (hip dislocation) remain sidelined, although the latter has started running again.
>
Fullback Wade McKinnon is almost certain to return against the Warriors following his hamstring problems, while five-eighth Benji Marshall suffered no significant damage despite being knocked around against the Knights.
>
Meanwhile, Canberra's poor injury run has received a dose of good news, after scans cleared halfback Matt Orford of serious groin damage. The 2008 Dally M medallist could return for the round-16 encounter with Parramatta. A day after star five-eighth Terry Campese declared his season over, any prospect of Orford returning to the bottom-placed Raiders later in the season is a huge boost.
>
However, no definite time has been set for Orford's comeback. He will be rested this week before beginning light training next week. Orford hasn't played for the Raiders since the round-nine loss to Manly on May 9\. Orford is believed to have required painkilling injections to take the field earlier in the season.
>
He had come under intense criticism for his performances and bore the brunt for Canberra's run of eight straight defeats.
>
However, the Raiders will be desperate to get the 33-year-old halfback on the paddock. His experience will be crucial, especially with Campese not expected to return this season, having played just eight minutes of it, against the Cowboys last Sunday. Campese will be sidelined for eight to 12 weeks with an adductor tear, but the star playmaker is already looking towards next year.
>
''I'll just do the right thing by myself and be ready for next year,'' Campese said yesterday.
>
Adding to the Raiders' woes are injuries to NSW fullback Josh Dugan and centre Joel Thompson. Dugan will miss between three to five weeks with an ankle tear, while Thompson is hoping to return from a torn groin muscle in two weeks.
>
One plus is the likely inclusion for Sunday's clash with the Broncos of representative prop David Shillington. The Maroons enforcer has been sidelined since round eight with a torn pectoral muscle and a knee injury. '' _some contact work last week, been changing direction at full speed, but I guess I haven't fully tested out … with people like Tommy Learoyd running at me,'' he said. ''If I can tackle him that'd be the true test and I'll be right to go on Sunday.''\

u beat me to it captain awesome.. dammit. shouldnt u be asleep.

have been some bad runs with injury this year - across many clubs, with many repeats.
Tuqiri for us with a broken arm, then an ankle. And Utai - both wingers with broken arms.

So - Beau in and then Simona on the bench? Or will it be more complex player movements with guys out of position?

Schirnack was named as 18th man so it could be a 4 forward bench again. Warriors will most likely play the Tigers up the middle with the squad they have named so that's the way I'd go.
