Tigers in no hurry to re-sign Moltzen

Wests Tigers fullback Tim Moltzen might have resolved his playing destination for 2012, but his NRL future beyond that is far from secure.

The talented custodian was delighted to hear St George Illawarra would not register the three-year contract he had signed, allowing him to remain with Wests Tigers next season.

But having given up on a guaranteed three-year payday from the Dragons, Moltzen - who could be sidelined for up to six months with a shoulder injury - has been left to sweat on a new deal from the Tigers.

Moltzen comes off contract at the end of 2012, but Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys said the club was in no rush to reward the 23-year-old's decision to turn his back on the Dragons.

"That was clearly a decision Tim made, so that's really not a responsibility for us," Humphreys told AAP.

"Tim has his views on the matter and I think he's expressed those and so that's really all there is to that.

"… We do (have a lot of faith in Tim as a prospect), but (his re-signing is) certainly not something we'll look at until next year.

"We've spoken to Tim and his manager, and they're aware it's not something we'll look at or discuss until next year.

"It's good to have it resolved. I think that's in everyone's best interests."

Humphreys said the decision was a win for everyone who hoped to see one-club players in the NRL.

"One of the things we like to talk about in our game is that players can play at the clubs where they came through rather than be pushed into a draft situation like other codes," he explained.

"One of the good things about rugby league is the players can end up having long careers at the clubs they want to be at.

"From that point of view, I think a lot of people would be pleased that Tim's able to play where he wants to play."

Tim has been told he will be given a contract extension…. I love this club the crap that goes on behind closed doors u wouldn't believe. This is only to apeese the disgruntled league community about what's happened. Moltzen will be here til 2014

Cruel piece of writing - I'm thinking that there is something we don't know in relation to contract status. No ones gonna give up 700 k over 3 years for a 1 year contract.

Someone should make a sit com set in the backroom of a rugby league club

After the whole saga, I'm more concerned about the story saying he may not play for 6 months with his shoulder injury. Anyone know more about that.?Do people think that's true or BS since he used it as an excuse to sour the Dragons and sway them release him?

Right. Just saw the post on the other thread where B Gibbs said he was wakeboarding behind his boat. You never know with Gibbs though. He could be stitching him up for a laugh.

Gibbs is definitely having a dig. Hes been giving it deluxe on twitter ever since Moltzen signed up a few weeks ago. Just banter between mates though.

Moltzen was even having a joke about all the "hardwork" he would need to do on his arm.

Not sure what Doust was actually told during the meeting, but it certainly seems like Dragons are beating this up to save face.

If I was moltz I wouldn't be expecting an extension right at this moment. He still has a year left and we'll need that year to see whether his form in the back half of the season was just a fluke. We don't want a Daniel Mortimer on our hands.

But I think his shoulder injury is just a niggle. A doctor told him he 'could' have surgery if he wanted, but I remember when I broke my arm they told me surgery was an option. It would have made a minor difference but really it's not noticeable. He probably played it up to deter the dragons from going through with the contract
