WITH Gareth Ellis heading back to England, the Wests Tigers have made an approach to Sonny Bill Williams. SBW's agent, Khoder Nasser, was approached by Tigers football manager Warren McDonnell. It's unclear if the talks will go further - Williams is widely tipped to be keen to join the Roosters but no deal has been done. I was told Benji Marshall was keen for his club to chase his good mate Williams. "Of course we'd like Sonny, which club wouldn't," he said. "But that is not my department - that's up to the club. I'm not the one pushing that line." SBW's next step in football will definitely be a big event, but when a deal is struck with his next team it will involve boxing. Those who love to knock his ability to fight should note he has just rejected an offer from legendary promoter Don King to join his stable of boxers. King's people went through the New Zealand Boxing Association to make an approach, but Williams will do things his way. He is also set to ignore approaches from at least two other American promoters. All this during a week in which former Swan Barry Hall decided boxing was too tough. Hall took some delight in saying he didn't want to be regarded as a novelty fighter like SBW. He's in no danger of that happening.

Not much point in approaching Khoder Nasser regarding $BW's future as I believe he is not an accredited NRL agent therefore cannot be eligible for any negotiations, the only way I would want to see Sonny at the Tiges is if he ditches his association with Nasser.

SBW will be in the bag for the Roosters

Especially seeing they have pulled out of negotiations with Quade Cooper

If we are going to spend 800k on a player I want Cooper Cronk or Jonathan Thurstan

Colour me jaded, but since Wiedlers profile has dropped off significantly in recent times methinks he is attempting to jag some readership by putting the names "SBW" and "Benji" in the same column.

I'd be more inclined to think we would be more likely to re-sign Fitznhenry before we sign SBW.

You never know we have have signed superstars 3 years in a row why can we now. He might like how we attack and what a back row blair sonny chris that is a very very strong backrow im pretty sure we can get him to the tigers.

I think the Sika Manu story in the same paper is more realistic. I'd love to have SBW in our team but I doubt it will happen.

If he did sign, great.

And if he wants to box, sure why not? As long as he has no problems fighting no bodies at the local PCYC.

Sorry but I won't pay big $$$ to see him on the sidelines through boxing.

No boxing and he's got a deal.

Danny Weidler…. Your a tossed he knows that he is signed to he roosters....... Danny and Buzz both need a bullet!

The only way any other club will get him is if they let him keep boxing as conditions to the roosters is that there is no more boxing.....

Plus if he fights Lucus Browne he I'll get smashed and this boxing career will be over anyway!

My two cents worth

Minichello said he would put his money on SBW being at the Roosters next year during NRL on FOX last Wednesday so for what it is worth SBW is no longer available.

Yeah, Sika Manu is the smart buy IMO. SBW will have a boxing clause in his contract and will be chasing uber dollars, more than he is worth IMO. Manu on the other hand won't be cheap, but I think he'll be worth what he gets.

SBW wants 2 career paths sorry you don't get over 500k a season with out being fully focused, personally his best is behind him especially with Mundine in the picture.

Hopefully he's off to the roosters-last thing we need is another huge investment in a second rower when we havent got a proven 7 or 1 at this stage
And a second rower who cld easily de-focussed on boxing $$,& also second rower with disruptive management & mates
No thanks
…& Sika manu Wld bring the Utai-like go forward without the other issues because hed play where Utai shld be..in the back row.Much better option than $ bill
