Tigers not concerned with Titans’ dramas

Wests Tigers insist the cocaine scandal that has engulfed Gold Coast won’t affect their preparation for the round one NRL clash with the Titans.

Five Titans players have been stood down by the club amid accusations of supplying cocaine ahead of their opening March 7 fixture on the Gold Coast.

Dave Taylor, Greg Bird, Beau Falloon, Kalifa Faifai Loa and Jamie Dowling are not available for selection for round one.

As a result the make up of coach Neil Henry’s side is very much up in the air.

But representative prop Aaron Woods said complacency won’t be a factor for the Tigers coming into the game.

“It’s not for us to worry about, it’s not our club,” Woods said at training at Leichhardt Oval on Wednesday.

“Our minds are just on the game, we have had a long pre-season, we have a new coach and there are a lot of boys out there to impress.

“We are just really excited to get the season started, I haven’t looked at the Titans to be honest.

“We know what we want to do, we know our structures so whoever comes in front of us it will be easy for us to get up.

“Bring on round one.”

Woods said he had not been in contact with his NSW teammate Bird.

Back-rower Curtis Sironen missed the start of 2014 due to a fractured foot in the NRL Auckland Nines and said he wasn’t concerned about who the Tigers were playing first up.

“I don’t really pay too much attention to anything that is going on,” he said

“I just worry about myself.

“I have had my own issues to worry about.

“Regardless we will go in with our own preparation and do our own thing.

“We won’t worry too much about who we are coming up against.

David Nofoaluma and Tim Moltzen (both knee) are the Tigers’ only injury worries ahead of the start of the NRL season.

They are both expected to be fit by round three.

They shouldn't even be uttering a single word about whats happening on the Gold Coast. Being Taylor's first game, he won't tolerate any complacency.

We'll win this one. I'm calling it now. Not the for the dramas going on at the GC either. I just think the new structures Taylor has put in place will help the team play better as an overall unit.

They are responding to direct questions, and they answered the only way they can.

Which is not worrying about it, just concentrating on ourselves blah, blah , blah

That is the best thing to do….the old "no comment comes across worse, this is the "polite version no comment"

Not saying they should be saying ''no comment'', obviously they have to answer questions. I'm talking about them talking amongst themselves. Even if they don't talk about it out loud, complacency can always creep in mentally.

Being round one, and with a brand new coach…theres no way complacency will be an issue imo.

If this had occurred mid late season, thru the week leading up to our game...could be a different story....but round one everyone is keen as...even the opposition

Unfortuntely 99 times out 100 there has to be a winner and a loser

Sometimes teams can be over enthusiastic , then things don't come off and the confidence suffers

I reckon we will get the two points , but no game is easy in the NRL and too many sides have learnt that over the years

Wests Tigers have a lot more to play for. Their new coach won't allow any complacency to creep in.and the players, including Lawrence, know that they need to perform or their place will be taken by the many up and comers the club is fortunate to have available this season. .

Titans are a rabble.

I expect to be thoroughly entertained from my spot on halfway.

This should be a game changer for my young lad - hopefully enough entertainment provided by our lads to turn him from casual Tigers fan to RED BLOODED Tigers fan.

I agree, now it's time to stand and deliver, for wests-tigers players, or find yourself competing in the State Cup. ( why don't the NRL hierachy change the name back to reserve grade)

Gotta say if this was previous years is be so nervous about it. However with everything I've seen of Taylor and with it being round 1 I'm confident we'll be focused. If we lose I don't think it will be because we took them lightly. In saying that I'm expecting a win.
