After another year missing semis, i think us long suffering supporters need an off season present from the tigers players and management. Im getting sick of my mates telling me how excited they are to have re-signed their top players who are coming of contract in the last week or so.

- Panthers: Moylan, Cartwright & Peachey
- Manly: trbojevic brothers, tapoau
- Souths: inglis, reynolds
- titans: ash taylor

Im sure there is more. Yet we have our top 5 off contract and im waiting for some good news. Surely Woods, Tedesco, Moses,Brooks, Nofa can follow the lead of their counterparts and put pen to paper. There are some superstars in the making that have re-signed with their respective clubs. So either these tiger juniors need to show some loyalty to the club that made them or our management need to get of their asses and see what these other clubs are doing and do it to sign up our top players before the season starts. We deserve an off season present.

Loyalty??????

We can only dream. All these youngsters showing loyatly at other clubs. Would be good to have some at ours.

like woods, moses, tedesco and farah have shown?

Woods, Moses and Tedesco are off contract at the end of next year , not sure you aware or not. This is where there loyalty is tested. If they are loyal they will re-sign with us.

Farah is very loyal, unfortunately the club was not as loyal in return.

thats pretty good loyalty imo

So would they still be loyal if they are playing for another team in 2018\. Loyalty is what wins you premierships. Loyalty means you lose a bit financially to ensure your top players can stick together. Your right Tedesco has done in the past, but it wont mean anything if he isnt with us in 2018.

Loyalty is a myth in sport and in business it is even a bigger myth in the business of sport.

Think about the loyal players from the last 3 premiership sides.

2014 Winners: Rabbitohs
Loyal Player: Greg Inglis

2015 Winners: Cowboys
Loyal Player: Jonathan Thurston

2016 Winners: Sharks
Loyal Player: Paul Gallen

What impact these players have had on these clubs is enormous.

Neither of those 3 sides would have won the premiership without their loyal players.

Conclusion: GNR4LIFE is correct. Loyalty does win you premierships. Everyone who doesn't agree with GNR4LIFE is wrong.

Loyalty can be bought…

Loyalty is not for free. You have to pay players to be loyal. As long as you have a core group of players who are willing to be loyal you will have success.

Take the tigers, our future success will depend on the loyalty of our top 4 or 5 core players. If fhey stick together we have a massive chance of success. If they dont, it will diminish our chance for success greatly. Which in turn will diminish our chances of recruiting other high profile players to be loyal.

Shall we count how many "loyal" players Newcastle had this year?

My point being that every team, good and bad, has loyal players, and your argument is specious.

Sure there are examples but kid yourself not, there is no loyalty - yes there are examples of players who have stayed on at a club but only because it mutually met the needs. There are many more examples were loyalty hasn't been shown and you don't have to look far.

Why didn't Inglis stay at the storm, why didn't Thurston stay at the bulldogs and why didn't Gallen stay at Parra, either they were not loyal or the club wasn't by your argument.

Let me ask you this, you go to work tomorrow and your boss calls a meeting and says hey mate we need to reduce you income by $20k because we need to bring a new staff member in. Do you stay? Especially if there is another company willing to pay you what you are on or more? At the very least you will be peeved and start thinking like you are not valued.

Or lets simplify it and say that another company offers you $20k more than what you are currently on, are you not going to consider it?

If your answer is no then sure you and G4L are correct for the way you think (and thats ok), Just because these guys play football it doesn't mean they don't think like regular people, they have families, bills and mortgages, just like everyone else and they will do what they need too to get by.

Why didn't Inglis stay at the Storm…. 😕 😕 Oh you were serious 😱pen_mouth:

I think he had to give back his boat...

You make many valid points and i agree with what you say. Sport is a business and loyalty from players and clubs is hard to find. Even when a player is loyal, if the club doesnt want him (e.g farah) the club will move that player on.

The main thing is though, and as someone who has played sport, you cannot put a $$$$ value on winning a grand final. Im hoping thats what makes these players loyal. That by sticking together they have an opportunity to be part of something special moving forward snd hopefully winning a premiership with the mighty tigers will help them over look bigger offers by bigger and better clubs.
