The Wests Tigers and the SCG Trust have advised that the Men of League Heritage Round match (round five) between the Wests Tigers and the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Sunday April 1 (3.00pm) will be transferred from the Sydney Cricket Ground to the Sydney Football Stadium.

The decision was confirmed today as a result of construction work underway as part of the $186m upgrade of the Noble, Bradman and Dally Messenger stands.

The Wests Tigers will continue with plans to celebrate the 60 year anniversary of the 1952 Grand Final in one of the feature moments of this year’s the Men of League Heritage round.

"Heritage round has a special significance for the Wests Tigers club and our members and fans really get into the spirit of the occasion," Wests Tigers Chief Executive, Mr Stephen Humphreys, said.

"By moving the match to the Sydney Football Stadium we can be sure of the facilities that will be in place and we will have a very real chance of filling a great football stadium.

"Tickets go on sale tomorrow (Thursday February 23) and I am sure that everyone will want to guarantee their seat."

As much as I like the history of the SCG, I am glad the game is being shifted to the SFS where the viewing is much better. I'm also glad that the issue has been sorted now and not blown up during the season. Speaking of being organised I hope the manufacturers have Wests heritage jerseys for sale this year for supporters unlike last year.

Great news. Nostalgia aside, the SFS is a much better ground to watch the game

As long as the game is promoted well for a sunday game then let the magpies heritage match be a great day for WT

Gary the capacity is only reduced in the members. Just another excuse. It should not effect the general public at all. If capacity is such an issue why hasn't rd 1 been moved from LO?

While not a fan of AwFuL I did read in the Daily Bugle that the 'Bloods' aren't impressed at all, while I can accept that there will be a reduced capacity at the ground do you really think we'd get more than perhaps a 22K crowd?.

Like many others I am glad it is now at a ground that is made for a great football viewing experience

Damn, 3 out of 3 times the Wests heritage match has been moved from the SCG to the SFS

Round 1 in 2008 because the Cricket was on

Last year because of Channel 9

and this year due to construction.

:frowning:

SCG is the worst ground to watch footy at, prob a blessing in disguise. At least it stays on sunday and they can do the day properly

Don't know why you'd be upset about that. The SFS is a far better spectacle for watching rugby league.

I think the real reason for the move is simple

Would you want the Redfern Scum in your backyard ??..

Enough said I reckon

Heads must roll!

Heads will roll if the renovations are not completed by the end of 2013 as scheduled. The Ashes will be on that summer, but importantly, 2014 is the 45th anniversary of the 1969 Grand Final.
