How much does he(PN) know…last week we was lauding, on reliable advice, the signing of Burgess, this week supposedly he is off to Souths

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/general/rugby-league/three-giants-aces-in-the-frame-to-play-in-cup-final-1776817.html

"The Australian club, Wests Tigers, have confirmed that Wigan's loose forward, Mark Flanagan, who played in their semi-final defeat by Warrington, is joining them on a two-year contract next season. The club already has the British forward, Gareth Ellis, on its books."

Do we know for sure Burgess is a done deal at Souths???? One things for certain if they don't do something about the front row for 2010 nothing much will change. It is impossible to get through a long season with what we have in the cupboard. Iam not having a go at what we have, they just need some help

If we have Moltzen in the halves all season, i think we could make top 4.

It is impossible for a team to get through a season with two front rowers and a couple of make shift ones and you could have joey johns at his prime and nothing would change. Their are always going to be injuries, suspension and form slumps. We have to beef up our stocks in the frontrow or we will perish again next year, its that simple

There's a piece on Flangan in this week's RLW. Those close to him reckon he will go well in Australia next year. Sounds like his place will be in the forwards as it has been suggested to him that he needs to bulk up a bit. Has a very high workrate though so he could be our lock for next season with Heighington reverting back to the second row alongside Ellis.

Id rather that than Ayshford to lock tbh.

What a rubbish statement. Molzten has yet to show he can direct this team around the park. A lot of people of this forum are very confident he is the answer to our halback. TI have seen this confidence before. In 6 months time the same people will be asking for Moltzen to be sacked and blame Sheens for playing him at HB. All too familiar.

Regardless, Supercoach is right that without decent go forward our halves are irrelevant.

Seemed to work this year, 6/6 iirc…

5/5 … Souths, Cowboys, Raiders, Manly, Roosters. Lui played 7 against Sharks.

But still ... to come off 1 win in 8 weeks then string 5 together, okay, against some pretty average competition with only 1 side in the 8, I'd say he was doing pretty well. But I dont think Moltzen in the 7 was 100% the reason to why we won ... you gotta remember we had a real fullback in the #1 jersey in Gallant.

I reckon 2010 will be the same as the last 4 years. You will rarely get a front rower who will play 24/24 games a year. They get injuries. They throw themselves into a brick wall week in week out, make 30ish tackles a game etc, theyre bound to have a few bumps and bruises that take longer than a week to heel. Having 3 experienced props in the squad for next year (Gibbs, Galloway and Payten) really exposes our lack of depth. Okay, Schirnack and Gower have a lot of supporters but theyre still raw in regards to first grade. We need some experienced depth that have the same impact to the team as Galloway etc. You dont want to have your top flight prop come off after 25mins and replace them with lesser impact players. Look at Manly for instance. Their starting props this year were Jason King and Josh Perry. When they come off you've got Brent Kite and George Rose to come on, equally as dangerous.

Really good points.

On their own, I think each of the Sea Eagles front rowers are a bit over-rated. But boy I respect what those four can do when they play as a unit…

Melbourne have been able to achieve the same thing over the last few years with different combinations of Ben Cross, Antonio Kaufusi, Jeff Lima, Adam Blair, etc.

Yeah exactly. Many teams do it. Brisbane have Joel Clinton (overrated) and Nick Kenny (underrated IMO) starting and Dave Taylor off the bench or mixing those three around. Melbourne was a good example too.

When youre at a game and you see the opposition's starting prop go off, most of the time you're like *phew* but then you get guys like Brent Kite as their replacement and youre like :astonished: I also reckon the Warriors do it well, they've got size way across the pack and on the bench.

I reckon if Daine Laurie can get his head on straight and show determination to perform consistently and keep a first grade spot he'll have the same impact. Galloway comes off and is then replace by Laurie. That way we'll have a constant battle in the forwards rather than 20mins here and there.
