Tigers snare Takairangi

His defence was not good.

Centre is not a bigger need.

Next year we have two young fellas who are very weak defensively. We need strong defensive back rowers to look after them.

You DO NOT make your centres defend the inside man. That is defence 101\. Your outside defenders have to man up 1-on-1 and slide towards the sideline. If they are stationary so as to help cover the inside, you end up with an isolated centre, generally flat footed with a hole outside him and/or leaving his winger to defend an overlap.

Can't believe all the people asking who signed Takairangi, as if we opened negotiations with him yesterday and signed him today.

Mick Potter and the club would have targeted him and been speaking to his management for a few weeks, and even though Potter go the arse this week, it would have been agreed by all parties to continue with the transfer. We obviously need to sign a player or two, and if we wait until the end of October for a new coach, that window closes.

The club doesn't cease operating because there is no head coach for a few weeks, and not everything that happens is a fricken conspiracy.

How can you be given " the arse " if you are not under contract?

The club simply did not offer him another contract. Big difference.

We've potentially signed a player paying overs for a 3 year deal. When will the club learn!!

Sharks wanted him, were talking to him for months, but couldn't afford his wage demands. Titans wanted to keep him but also couldn't afford his demands, yet somehow we can? I doubt he's coming here for love not money, but with our cap seemingly so tight how can we afford to outbid other clubs for an average player?

He's not a replacement for Paterson as he would be on a third of the coin Takaraingi will be on. It would seem he's a replacement for both bodene and paterson in the one player.

I'll be paying close attention to him in the nz or samoan sides, whichever he gets picked for, if any. I doubt we'd officially sign him until we have a new coach. We have probably agreed to terms with the new coach to rubber stamp any new signings. It's not liike Brad would be training with us in the meantime in any case so we might as well wait another month to get it signed off.

There could be the chance the new coach doesn't rate him, in which case he'd stay with the Titans for less money i guess.

Should only be a 2 year deal though. He hasn't proven that he's a standout NRL player, and if he turns into a dud/average player we'll be stuck with him for 3 years. 2 years should be the standard contract length for most players, with only those who are stars or with loads of potential getting long term deals.

Speculation!!!!

Has it been confirmed by the club that he is officially signed?

Have they told you what money he is on?

Take a valium and wait and see.

Magpiecol, they were going to give him the arse after Dragons game, but we to weak to do anything…..No renewal , no differance :brick: :bash

No, and i've never said it was official. I've even said he would probably not be officially signed for a few weeks in any case.

It has been officially confirmed that he's agreed to a 3 year deal with us. It's been officially confirmed that the Sharks publicly ruled themselves out of the race as they couldn't match his demands, and likewise the Titans couldn't fit his demands under their cap.

So none of that is speculation buddy. No of course we don't know how much he was actually asking for, just that other clubs couldn't/wouldn't afford it but we seemingly have. As someone who's played several seasons of NRL and is a fringe NZ player he wouldn't exactly be on peanuts. Not huge $, but not cheap squaddie wages either!

So, let me get this right. He has not been officially confirmed as signing with the Weststigers, but it has been officially confirmed that he has agreed to a 3 year deal. Is that right?

If that is so, is there somewhere on the official Weststigers website where I can read this news?

I'm glad the vibe on this signing is low. Means he'll get massive wraps next year. He's way better than anyone is giving him credit for. He's a harder hitter in defence than anyone in our side including Blair and Seumanufagai. He's quicker than he looks, has a nice swerve, is a good ballplayer. He's being very unfairly criticised. He is better than Bodene Thompson and he would have definitely been in the Titans top 17 at any stage throughout the year.

I agree,I said in another thread he is better and bigger than Thompson, who gets a lot of love around here,Happy you are a poor judge if you think he is a poor mans Thompson.

As a backrower hes a poor mans Thompson. But as a centre hes actually pretty good.Five eighth he is meh.

Well a big, strong decent centre is exactly what we need, so let's hope he is actually going to be played there.

However, if you can believe the article, he sounds very reluctant to leave the Titans and sign with us, which is a bit of a worry. It would be good if the players we signed actually looked forward to playing with us.

If it is true that we have signed Takairangi …I think that's the writing is on the wall that Bodene is off to the Raiders which is a shame ...his form this season was one of the shining lights in the drab existence that was 2014...

Don't mind Takairangi as a squadie we could do worse..

You could do worse

You could do far better as well

Doesn't have to be a SOO player , just needs to be well thought out

We just sign fringe players and that's all we have done for a few years

From all reports Brad Takairangi has been signed by the Tigers until the end of 2017.

Was just talking to my mate who is in the titans coaching setup, he rates him pretty highly, said big and skilfull. I asked him if he rated him higher than bodene, he said more skills but not as busy.
Also has huge wraps on jj Felise said he should have got MOM in the schoolboys gf last year over martin

And they targetted us there because we were defensively weak there.

Which proves my point.

Moses and Brooks are weak defenders and we are going to have defensively inadequate back rowers defending next to them.

Teams are going to walk through our edge defence.

Oh wait, they already do.
