@supercoach I'm with you supercoach, he has not turned into Andrew Johns like some were predicting but that was a very tough comparison.

What team has a better halfback? DCE is probably the best at the moment but has quite a few games where he is invisible/ineffective, Mitchel Pearce falls apart under any pressure, Cooper Cronk is a great kicker and game manager but doesn't offer much else. Nathan Cleary looked good until he was selected for Origin 2018 and it seems to have shattered his confidence, Chad Townsend alternates between lukewarm and freezing. Ben Hunt has confidence issues and goes missing for weeks, Jake Turpin? Jack Cogger? Blake Green? Aiden Sezer? Jake Clifford? Ash Taylor? Brodie Croft? Mitchell Moses?

I'm pretty sure anyone that doesn't rate Brooks would be whinging even more about any other 7.

Brooks has never been able to manage a game or kick well consistently ... he’s Ash Taylor without the sooking. Heaps of teams have better halfbacks ... your comparisons are a joke.

Teams with better halfbacks on current form:
* Rabbitohs - Adam Reynolds
* Roosters - Cooper Cronk
* Sea Eagles - Daly Chery-Evans
* Eels - Mitchell Moses (only this season, has been woeful in past seasons)
* Knights - Mitchell Pearce

And then Luke Brooks sits right below this lot.

People who keep saying he doesn't run the ball...check the bloody stats. No half runs the ball more than Luke Brooks. He sits 10th for ALL runs (251 in 16 games). The next best is Pearce at 50th (198 in 15 games). Source: https://www.nrl.com/stats/players/?competition=111&season=2019&stat=1000038

When it comes to the game management arguments, we have 2 other senior players who both failed to kick the ball into touch in the Melbourne game earlier in the year. Both of whom actually kicked the ball in the closing stages of that match!

And then there's Brooks' defence, which is fantastic for a halfback, no other way to describe it.

Like it or not, Brooks is here to stay, and there's nobody better running around at the moment who could reasonably replace him. If you back a rookie to do the job, have fun waiting 3+ years for that to bear fruit.

But we’ve already waited 6 years for brooks to bear fruit .
How much longer do we have to wait ?
Please tell !

I agree, the Brooks bashing is unfair, his improvement and game management has gone to another level, and his defence is spot on. No half back will ever have a standout game if his forwards don't aim up.

Defence lol ...Brad Takarangi begs to differ .
And the old the forwards don’t aim up excuse lol
it’s never the playmakers fault is it ?

We're not waiting: he is a good halfback and has been for two seasons.
He's top in the NRL for line engagements.
He's third in support play.
He's ninth for try assists (5th among halfbacks).
He's top 10 for number of runs (top half or 5/8 by an absolute street).
He's outside the top 50 in errors (in the top 50: Moses, Croft, Nikorima, Townsend, Keary, Pearce, Milford).

He might not be the type of player you were expecting and he almost certainly isn't the new Andrew Johns, but he definitively is a good player. I'm sorry you can't see that, but there's not an argument to be had here: there's facts, and there's what you believe.

You are the king of nit picking incidents in a game to bash a player while ignoring everything else.

How often does Brooks dominate forwards attempting to run over him?
How many try saving tackles does Brooks make?

He is not a liability in defence, in fact he is one of the best defending halfbacks I have ever seen.

probably in the minority here but i don't think it's the right call- we will save probably 200-250K in the cap coz that's what he's probably worth currently. having him as 3rd choice half keeps constant pressure on brooks/marshall. i honestly doubt we would've seen marshall play as good without reynolds waiting.

He's still 30, his time will change. He's good for PR, trains hard and is a senior member who can lead the team at training. Last but not least, he was MoM in his last 2 games for us in the NRL.

I am a Brooks fan and want him to do well, but your comparisons are terrible. He may have been halfback of the year, but even as a Brooks fan, we know it was because at the Tigers he wins all the points, while good clubs share round the points. Last year he was pretty good, but he has been very ordinary this year. Really has not created much all year for us and he kicks the ball dead an aweful lot. His game management would be in the weaker set of halfbacks in the comp.

I don't like hearing this from Reynolds: Should never have signed him.

"Canterbury will always be home, regardless of which jersey I’m wearing," he said

"They did so much for me when I was a junior, and I’ll never forget that. The reality is, I never wanted to leave in the first place. You saw how emotional I was when I left."

Here are the actual stats for kicking dead this year, considering he he played more games and had more attempts these stats look pretty good to me. As you pointed out, he was halfback of the year because there were no other standout players in his team competing for points. As to creating opportunities and game management, I have watched every game and just don't agree with you.

I think @hobbo1 missed this post..

The thing is he will probably never be an Andrew Johns Johnathon Thurston Wally Lewis or a Peter Sterling and win games of his own bat which a lot of our fans I think expect him to do..those players are rare as hens teeth and really once in a generation players..they are Immortals...and even they had help in the teams they played in there are currently none of them playing for any TEAM

What you will get with Brooks is a player who has contributed to every win we have had this year and tried damn hard in the games we have lost...

All he needs to do is continue to do the things he does well and work hard on the things he doesn't to improve...

He's just being honest. Seems like a guy that genuinely feels loyalty and even though he sold himself out it's not something he wanted to do and it took a hell of a price. I agree that we shouldn't have signed him but I don't think he's shown a lack of commitment or effort here...

Yeah he is crap at closing games and probably always will be so we just need to find a guy that can do that. It's a big flaw in his game but it doesn't make him useless, just put a guy alongside him or somewhere on the park that can be relied on for clutch plays in the last 10-15 (preferably not MCK...)
