Tigers tell Reynolds he's free to find a new club

Also we were close to signing DWZ … there was a gap to be filled but I believe we could not match Bulldogs offer, and that was taking into consideration our penalty. So?
I recon we’ll be ok next year to fill our needs.

We didn't have enough room to sign him under our cap, there was not enough left over to even sign him for half a year.

OK while researching the answer to the long serving player allowance it is different to what I recall and we actually have a number of players that qualify and not just Chris Lawrance which has been believed on this forum!

The NRL operations state

$0.2 million – Veteran and Developed Player Allowance for eligible players who were either developed by the Club prior to becoming NRL players and / or have been a Top 30 player for at least 8 years at the Club or have been a Top 30 player for at least 10 years across the game.

So at least Farah and Matulino qualify and possibly Benji as it doesn't state 10 consecutive years! So that allowance hasn't necessarily been used on Chris as it is $200k in total!
I would also think that Brooks at least qualifies by being developed before becoming an NRL player.

@WT2K too many dodgy deals popping out from before pascoes relegation. he must answer for all the money being thrown at farah and all the money being given to ivan cleary to waste. i can see a major falling out between Madge Pascoe within 12 months, with a hint of Robbie in the stew

Indian fortune teller?

@TigerTiger I mean, is there not literally a case that he was borderline criminally negligent and even so potentially knew what he had been doing and continued to do once totally proven by himself that he had no intention of staying. I know we play a medieval sport in this ‘law’ sense of the word, but Justice, potentially calling the dog to account for loss of finance and breaking of what was a clear contract that had more than 1 year remaining to run on it. Keep in mind he did also LIE to multiple players and media sources that eventuates in us having our hand forced and blindly following his instruction to re-sign Robbie (which I’m not overly worried about)... but then that has subsequently put us into a position that nobody other than man responsible is able to fix. Is that then not his duty to, if not publically apologise for misinformation but the genuine lies that allowed us to have a great coach this year with absolutely zero chance of getting roster performance. You’re telling me that start of the year the boys weren’t clearly still miffed and many of whom only continuing to be contracted to the club at the hands of our master . Any other situation where this occurs and there is legitimately even now still cause for concern on his behalf about potential litigation

Knowing greenbugslife though, he’d end up getting a character reference. No joke

**Grub's up: Reynolds' Sydney suitors dwindling as he chases NRL move**
By Sam Phillips
July 21, 2019

Josh Reynolds' management is quietly confident the Wests Tigers playmaker will find a new club before 2020, despite limited early interest since being told he was free to negotiate with rival clubs.

While the Tigers will honour the remaining two-and-a-half years of Reynolds' hefty contract should there be no club willing to take on some part of Reynolds' $800,000 salary, the playmaker wants to play first grade football next season.

The Canberra Raiders take on the Wests Tigers in Round 18 of the NRL.
With Benji Marshall set to play on in 2020 and Maguire preferring to play the veteran Kiwi over the former NSW Origin star, that leaves Reynolds with little choice but to leave the club.

It is understood Reynolds' preference is to stay in the harbour city but which other Sydney-based club may take on Reynolds' salary remains to be seen, as there has been little significant interest in the playmaker to date.
"It's still early days. There a lot of machinations to come but there hasn't been anything significant yet, no," Reynolds' manager George Mimis told the Herald.

Reynolds last week said he would be open to a return to Canterbury but Bulldogs coach Dean Pay shot speculation of a potential homecoming down on Thursday after his team's loss to Brisbane.

"That's the first I've heard of it, that he's coming back," Pay said.

"So, we'll have to address that one as it comes along."

**Penrith's Ivan Cleary has also ruled out making a play for the 30-year-old, though that may change should James Maloney take the big bucks on offer in the Super League at the end of this season**.

That leaves the Rabbitohs, Sea Eagles, Eels, Sharks and Dragons as potential suitors in Sydney.

Souths are well placed in the playmaking department with Adam Reynolds and Cody Walker running the show, the Dragons have Queensland stars Ben Hunt and Corey Norman locked up for a few years yet and the Sharks have committed a significant chunk of their salary cap to Shaun Johnson and Chad Townsend.

The Eels have just re-signed Mitchell Moses on an $800,000 per year deal and have highly touted young gun Dylan Brown to worry about, too.

Manly may have been a viable suitor as Des Hasler has chopped and changed Daly Cherry-Evans' halves partner all season but the Sea Eagles boss doesn't believe his club have the necessary cap space.

"We're no chance with the cap," Hasler said.

"We already have sanctions and we are just getting over that.

"He will land somewhere but it won't be in the maroon and white."

Despite the lack of initial interest, Mimis is confident some suitors will emerge later in the year.

"There are a couple of waves. Obviously the pre-season is one of those especially for teams with new coaches coming in and the rosters changing," Mimis said.

"But you also have some movement in September when teams aren't in the finals start to make some moves.

"I have to say the Tigers have been tremendous throughout the year. Obviously they have Benji there but they are happy to honour the contract if a better option doesn't arise."

Before the Tigers fell to the Raiders in Canberra on Saturday night, coach Michael Maguire explained the reasoning behind letting Reynolds walk if he is able to find a new home.

"I have a really good relationship with Josh and he's a great fella, I've felt for him over the last few months not being able to get on the park," Maguire said.

"One thing he is, is a complete competitor. For him, he wants to be playing first grade. With the knowledge of Benji potentially staying at the club we had that conversation with him and what he wanted to do in the future.

"He was keen to look around and we've granted that. In saying that he's got a contract with us. It's an opportunity to see where he's at and once he gets back on the field we know what type of player he is."

“Penrith’s Ivan Cleary has also ruled out making a play for the 30-year-old.”

Leaves us paying 500k. Unless they are throwing in one of their promising youngsters, that is an ordinary deal.

It's still $300k to spend I suppose.

I'd be very surprised if we get more than $300k

I would really hate for us to pay 500k of his salary from our cap and he comes good and plays every game next season for someone else. If there was no chance of him playing most games next season, we would be looking at medically retiring him.

I also don't see why he would take a pay cut to play reserve grade or a dummy half utility role at another club when he has a contract.

Who said he would take a paycut?

@WT2K See the Sharks game??

300K for Josh Reynolds and they get a bargain.
Well kinda.

The Sharks have a deliberate strategy of waiting for clubs to offload players. Easts do too but they bite sooner. Just like the sharks did with Adam Woods, waited till he wasn't wanted by the Dogs, offered under valued rates for him. Snapped up a prop on the market for 900K 6 months earlier for a lot less!

We brought Reynolds when the stocks were high. 800K is heaps and we paid overs when it looks like we lost everyone. Had Benji not rejoined with us Reynolds would be our 5/8 and we may not have been able to lure Maloney or Cronk... (they are also top shelf players used to top shelf conditions. Reynolds would join us on the rebuild).

So now the Sharks see our 800K player, who is probably worth 500K and offer 300K. Reynolds has sat on our bench in the injured pile and his body will have healed a lot.

Sharks get a complete bargain who at 300K will probably come good. What we should do is hold onto Reynolds for a little while longer, play him in first grade and see if his form increases. Then someone may offer 400K, not a lot of difference but worth it, Marshall's body can't keep taking First grade at this stage of his career.

The Tigers May say we are willing to pay half your salary say 400/800k. The Sharks May say we are only prepared to pay 300k.

Players decision stay at theTigers for 800k and play Canterbury Cup or take 300k from the Sharks and 400k from the Tigers or 700k and play as a 14 off the bench.

After tax he probably loses 55k net.

@cochise

There’s one of two scenarios that happen. Greg Eastwood took 800k and played reserve grade for the remainder of his contract.
Or Mbye Dogs agreed to pay 200k x 2 years and the Tigers met the difference.
The hope is say the Tigers say we will pay 400k and another club is happy to pay 300k. Reynolds then makes a decision to play reserve grade for 800k or take 700k and play for another clubs

we've been waiting since he joined last year to "come good"...............I just can't see it happening here or at any other club.

Good bloke, but we got him broken, the body just doesn't seem up to it any more.

@Tigerdave If that was the case and we could prove it, we would be chasing a medical retirement. Maybe we are saving that in case there are no takers for his contract?

@Sart0ri

they'd have to start thinking about it, he's currently listed as having a groin injury.......it's just been constant, I feel sorry for Grub and the club
