Lote Tuqiri wants to carry on in the NRL next year if his battered body can stand up to it, but it will almost certainly not be with the Wests Tigers.

The 34-year-old former dual international scored a try against the Sydney Roosters on Monday in his first game in 13 months.

But he could do little to prevent the Tigers from slumping to a 56-14 defeat to the ladder leaders at Allianz Stadium.

It was only the 22nd appearance Tuqiri has made for the club since 2011 having returned to the NRL from English rugby giants Leicester at the start of the 2010 campaign.

Tuqiri scored 17 tries that year and was named in the Kangaroos Four Nations squad.

However, he's battled a series of injuries ever since, including complications stemming from a badly broken arm and the cash-strapped joint-venture are unwilling to offer him a top-tier contract next season.

The former Kangaroos and Wallabies star sat down with the club officials last week and told he should start looking around if he wanted a similar terms to the lucrative deal he is currently on.

Despite coming towards the end of his career, Tuqiri wants to continue playing and believes he can still make a contribution in the NRL.

"I still have something to offer. I will always back myself and my ability," he said.

"If the body's not right I'll give it up, but at the moment I feel pretty good.

"I haven't made a decision on next year, I will play out the next few weeks and go from there."

Despite their woeful season, the Tigers have seen youngsters such as David Nofoaluma, James Tedesco and Tim Simona show encouraging signs of becoming top players.

And Tuqiri said the future is looking very bright for the club.

"There's a lot of good young players coming through and getting some first grade experience," he said.

"It's been tough for them this year, I went through it at times when I was at Brisbane when I started out.

"It was awesome to be out there with them, I love playing at Allianz Stadium, and I am ready to rock and roll next week if I am picked."

The Tigers continued their clear out of their current squad on Tuesday by allowing Joel Reddy to join South Sydney next year.

It follows Benji Marshall being granted an early release to join Super Rugby side Auckland Blues.

Reading between the lines, it seems like we might be open to another deal, just not at his current remuneration.

Have to say, if Lote elected to play on with us and accepted a reduced contract to do so, I wouldn't be upset.

I feel somewhat sorry for the guy. Injuries are a flip of a coin bad luck result. Unfortunately it's become a young, fit mans game. Both of which Lote is no longer. He's done more than many athletes could dream of representing both codes and his country. It's time to hang up the boots Lote and enjoy the legacy. Good luck champ.

Hard one because he so good with the media, sponsors, public and young kids coming through the system. I saw him a few years ago as he was coming out to do his warm up go up to each of the u20s who had just won their game and gave them a few words and a pat on the back. Super bloke who would be worth a few bob just for his people skills but will he keep a better player out of a starting gig????If it was my call I would try and find him a back office job and a mentoring role

Maybe, however I'm not sure he should be put out as a role model as such. Great bloke it seems, however he has a way with the ladies if you know what I mean….

as impressive as he was on monday night you couldn't sign lote on any big money. and definitely not for any longer than a year.

our oustide backs have been some of our only signs of hope this year with guys like simona, nofo, koroibete and tedesco.

next year we're still having to find some form out of lawrence and find out where to slot moltzen.

we also just signed austin who is a potential centre (as well as a half) and old mate pat richards. also naiyavaro continues to ask the question of coach potter as to whether he's good enough to earn a crack

i would maybe sign him to compete with lawrence for a spot and also guide the youngsters but definitely not on any big money. he's been about as cost-efficient as terry campese

Id be shocked if another club wanted him so we should be able to name our price.

On the right deal to mentor juniors I don't see the problem.

I feel like his media spark has dwindled as he has been out of the spotlight for a while

That's why you always quit at your peak. People remember the way you exit the game, not the way you came in.

Benji's about to learn that.

Most of the great one's know when it's time to go. I hope Lote does.

He surprised me last night and did really well but to extend his contract? I don't think we should not at what it currently is that's for sure. Age combined with being injury prone not a good mix for the long term!I hope he doesn't retire a year to late like some other super stars. His a gentleman and a great athlete. :master:

I think he could be worth another run based on that effort but how many games will he play, how much money will he expect and where does that leave the rest of our outside backs.

Personally I think its cool if he goes.

Wally Lewis would disagree.

Though Masterton takes the cake for reality...

Really….we cant afford him
We need players on the park...too risky imo

Don't see why it's risky if it's a cheapy for depth. We'll have injuries, rest assured. And he can come up in the centres, which he hopefully learns over the summer. I assume this is why he played there in NSW Cup?

Also, seems a million times better than expected, he's still got it. Question is if he can stay healthy.
