Tigers v Storm in 2010

Ponder this….

If an under 8's team was found to be playing 9 year olds. Would that team be stripped of points then allowed to keep playing with the 9 year olds? Meaning that the teams abiding by the rules had to continue to get beat by a team that breaking the rules.

My point is, for the rest of the year teams worth $4.1m will still be playing a team worth $4.8m. Why should the Tigers take the field against a team that is superior to our due to them breaking the rules when the likelihood is that due to them breaking the rules, we are more likely to lose to them!

If I was the head of a league team that wasnt breaking the rules I would be claiming that my team should not have to take the field to play a team that has broken the rules and have an illegal advantage over my team. The Storm should have to forfeit all games until under the salary cap.

My solution:

Teams who have lost to the Storm should be awarded the 2 points.
The Storm must forfeit all games with opponants claiming victory through default.
If the Storm show that they have stood down players worth $700,000 they can continue to play and accrue points.

They can continue to accrue points aye, not so sure the Dogs fans will agree….

Why should the Dogs lose 37 points or whatever it was because they got caugh at the end of the season while the Storm only loses 8 points cause they were caught at the start ? Cheating is cheating and the punishment should be the same.

Because if they dropped $700,000 worth of players they wouldnt be over the cap anymore!

I don't think it'll be a problem for us. We don't play them until Round 25, by then they would have played 20 weeks of meaningless football. No matter how fired up they are now, by Round 25 they will be over it.

Hopefully we can put 80 on them and give our F/A a real boost.

You cant give every team that plays them or has played them 2 points as not every team plays them the same amount of times. some play them once, some play them twice.

You cant have them sit out the season for the same reason.

I cant think of a scenario thats fair to all teams, but I do agree and think its ridiculous that they can still field a team that is proven to be over the cap.

I honestly dont have a solution, i just dont think they should be allowed to accrue points when the Bulldogs werent allowed to that year….. how you go about it i dont really know ?

don't let any of the points they score against you, be recorded in the points for/ against section on the NRL ladder, but you get to keep the points you scored against them.
I do know that looks like an un-fair advantage, .. but so does cheating the salary cap for so long and winning NRL comp's.
time for a bit of what goes around/comes around. = kharma.

They will not be getting any points for the rest of the year, even if they win the game. Catch up!!!!

this is what needs to happen or they should be stood down this season (they already have been effectively) and whoever lost to them gets two points and whoever has them from now on gets a bye. i know i'd be filthy if WT lost to the storm as they are now - cheats. more than usual anyway

The Storm should not be allowed to accrue points, no matter how much talent they shed. What's the message sent to other clubs? If you get caught cheating the cap, just get rid of a few players and it'll all be sweet again. Ridiculous. That's like being busted robbing a bank and have the police say to you, "just give the money back and we'll let you go." They cheated, they're effectively gone for the year.

As for fielding the illegal team for the rest of the year, I don't mind it, everyone plays them, some teams twice. If you make them miss every match, it advantages the sides that play them twice, if you let them play I guess it advantages the sides that play them once, but oh well, there's no winners in this situation. If you force them to cut players, lets say they cut Inglis. How many clubs now could afford Inglis under their salary cap? none. Just like that Inglis is gone to ESL or Rugby Union.

For making them sit out $700k worth of players per match, that's not going to work either. The salary cap is for the top 25 not the top 17\. Breaching the cap has let them develop incredible depth. They've probably had $700k on the sidelines in their last 2 matches, and still beaten 2 ordinary sides convincingly.

The Storm dug their own grave with this one. They tried to win the 2010 premiership by cheating, and as a result, will run last. They don't deserve the chance to do any better. That's a fair solution. They can shed talent at the end of the year, when there's less chance of the game losing them to other competitions. As for them playing, there is no fair solution, you either favour the teams that they play once by making them play, or favour the teams they play twice by making them sit out. Either way, I don't think they're an unbeatable side, and I hope when we play them our players don't think that either.

The News Ltd honcho said that player managers were "misfits", I think that anyone who has an ounce of sympathy for the Storm (players or administration) are misfits too. Nothing as yet has been pointed at the players and they keep saying that they are innocent and have been together for many years - they feel like family - so they will take pay cuts to stay together. Well, I am told that there are 11 players involved and each has signed two contracts, one for the NRL and the other for their REAL payments. Yeah, theyt stayed together for many years with many of them debuting with the Storm - only because big daddy (the head of the "family") kept putting more and more food on the table.

The players may not have known as a group that 11 of them were being paid under the table but they would have had a fair idea, especially if it was done to one, surely there must be others. Since last week, surely they would have been asking questions themselves about who were getting special treatment above the others.

Free boats, cash in paper bags, $20K gift vouchers handed out each week.

I sit back and wonder how we would have gone these last 5 years if we had Inglis in the centres and Slater at fullback (apologies to Hodgo). That other misfit, Gould, can't come up with a decent solution either but I was interested to hear him say on the Sunday Roast that "they are all doing it" (cheating the cap). Well he only knows about the Storm and he is only close to one other NRL team - now you know why they are referred on here as the Rorters.

It will be a sad day if this Storm team are allowed to take pay cuts and stay together. They are a team of cheats end of story. We would have got Lima this year instead of Cayless too.

Don't feel sorry for them one little bit. Make them pay.
