Souths hose down speculation Sheens is in their sights

SOUTH SYDNEY'S management has answered speculation that Tim Sheens is in the frame to be their coach next year by declaring he is not a part of their plans.
>
The Rabbitohs approached master coach Wayne Bennett to take over from John Lang next year, but are yet to get an answer from him. And as the waiting game for several clubs keen on obtaining Bennett continues, there has been increased speculation about Tigers coach Sheens possibly going to Souths instead.
>
When asked yesterday if that was a chance of happening, Rabbitohs chief executive Shane Richardson told the Herald: ''We have made no contact with Tim Sheens whatsoever. He is not on the radar for us.''
>

Sheens is in the final year of his contract at the Tigers. He and the club's chief executive, Stephen Humphreys, have been discussing the possibility of a new deal for more than two months, but an agreement is yet to be reached.
>
Asked last night where things were at, Humphreys said: ''I have only had positive conversations with Tim about life beyond this year. We plan to catch up again this week to continue those conversations. We've had a few other things that have taken up our time in the last few weeks, but I would be very surprised if we didn't have a positive result soon.''
>
Humphreys said coaches like Sheens, with four premierships to his name, and Bennett, who has a record seven, were natural targets for other clubs.
>
''Such coaches would be on the list of most, if not all, of the clubs who are looking for a new coach,'' he said. ''But I'm pretty confident Tim wants to be at our place beyond this year. He has invested a lot of himself in this team, and I think he would like to continue with the players here.''
>
Lang faces a challenge to try to get the Rabbitohs moving on the competition table after yesterday's loss to Canterbury left them with nothing from the first two rounds. He said he didn't believe dropping players was the way to go.
>
''Change isn't the answer,'' he said. ''I try to pick the best side each week, and if your very best players don't play well, you've got to get them playing well. Always the first question when you lose is: Are you going to make changes? Well, whether you've won two in a row or lost two in a row, it's the same thing … You try and pick the best side.''
>
Lang said he didn't feel he had the right to be angry with the players. He said he was disappointed and frustrated with the team's form, but added: ''In the end, it's my job to get them playing well, so perhaps other people might be angry with me [instead].''

Sheens might take Gentle and Folkes with him though

Think this is a good point that people might be missing.

If Sheens goes and takes most / all his assistants, then we might get a new coaching staff that changes the way we play.

I for one (and I'm sure most WT fans) love the way we play at the moment (OK our defence could be better) and don't want to see that change.

Happy for Sheens to sign on for 2 more years.

Read in the newspaper that the Rabbits have dropped out of getting Bennett and are now targetting Sheens. This is a sad day. If Sheens leaves, most of the team will. 🙁 🙁 🙁

No the wont TF.

They cant and the Wabbits dont have the space to move in their cap.

That said When renegotiation time comes along we could loose a few. (Ie Lui or Moltz)

The longer Tim holds out and the longer the souths job sits in the balance The more chance of an increased offer for Tim from Tigers Makes sense to me Probably angling for an extra year also

Now that we have Lawrence in the bag Tim Sheens should hurry up and sign on for another 2 years.

 What about Souff's

You would think Lawrence knew who the coach will be for the next few years before he signed. Also you would think that Isac Luke would know the next coach at Souths before he inked his new deal.

I think Sheens will stay for 2 more years. He has the squad that should be right in the mix for the next 3 years, would be hard to walk away from that.

I'm not convinced Lawtence would know that.

Disagree Bug If Sheens was going somewhere else wouldn't he wanting as much talent to go with him or elsewhere Last thing he would want if he went to Souths (An Example ) and they came tenth and Royce Simmons (Another Example ) take over and they win or make GF Makes Sheens look bad . Think Chris would have had a few discussions about it If i was In Chris's shoes I would have

One question is why would sheens sit around being a very interesting 2nd choice? He deserves to be a first choice, and such would make his own mind up and not wait for others to decide for him

TIGERS fans should stand by for some good news.
>
The good mail from Concord tells us coach Tim Sheens is extremely close to agreeing to a new two-year extension.
>
The only sticking point is in the fine detail, such as incentives for the team's performance.
>
Sheens enjoys rock-solid support from major sponsor Harry Triguboff, who has been pushing the board hard behind the scenes to ensure his retention.

That's great news another 2 years till 2013!…If Sheens is any good with the current squad we should win a premiership between now and 2013!!.

**But what will happen after 2013?????**

**Sheens will probably go(and not a bad thing) and take most of the off contract players with him such as Farah and co!...**..The club would have to rebuild from the ground up!

I doubt that. I reckon he'll retire after he finishes with us. He's getting too old to take up the challenges of rebuilding a club, any club. It's taken him ten years to do it with our club, and he doesn't have ten years in him.

You are probably right…maybe a coaching director role with the WT...

you said he was going to Souff's ….....what Happened....

Look Coaches and players come and go the amount of youth we are developing is incredible....8 Australian schoolboys in the 20's alone this year alone....

Why would Sheens just walk away from that.....The core of the Wests Tigers is locked up beyond 2012....the future is bright with or without SHEENS.............

**That was the strong mail last week….maybe he did a Bennett and backed down after watching what a mess Souffs are really in after 2 games...fair dinkum they are travelling like busteds...**

Interesting stuff. I would like to see what those finer details are. Good luck to him if he does re-sign with Wests.
