Tigers welcome Shaun Mielekamp

So what happens when they get picked to play first grade and they grow up and live in Campbeltown are they seriously going to drive to Concord everyday? No wonder there juniors are jumping ship to other clubs, sell the Concord centre and move the training to Campbeltown if home grown talent is the main strategy.
Can’t really see an issue. Car pooling etc
Sydney not the best during peak times though
Manly apparently run a bus for juniors from Penrith

Where exactly are all these players jumping ship to if they want to stay in campbelltown? I dont see a mass exodus to penrith or the dogs?

Its like anyone, you finish school and you probably have to travel for work. Concord is 40minutes travel. I used to travel that distance to play harrold matt's and sg ball.

Sorry, its a cop out excuse.

So if we turn this on its head, what type of external talent are we going to attract when they have to travel and live in Campbelltown? Earning hundreds of thousands a year and living there vs the inner west..

But imagine if you lived in Campbeltown way and training way only 10 minutes there and back 5x a week and you have a young family , paying rent anywhere near Concord is already too expensive compared to anywhere near c town, this type of set up of cheap rent/short trips eg Newcastle, cowboys, Brisbane, dolphins, gold coast, Penrith, Parramatta, and the dragons.

Unless another COE built at Campbelltown is equal value or better than the one at Concord, they won’t be leaving that one for a smaller/weaker one. Besides the players that do live in Campbelltown have 3 choices. They either make the effort to travel there like majority of Sydney people going to work, find a place that’s closer to work (if they can afford to), or they just leave and potentially forgotten about.

From what I found online the average rent rate in Campbelltown is around $650 a week anyway so that’s not exactly cheap. Concord is definitely more expensive for renting but Campbelltown ain’t cheap either.

Yeah but $650 goes further in ctown possibly renting a 3-4 bedroom house instead of a 1970's apartment with 2 rooms and the bathroom and kitchen that hasn't been renovated since construction. I have friends that live in 4 different apartments for $650 in Ashfield. It's not worth it.

You would still save on fuel and time. You don't believe there's more benefits of training full time in ctown? When the COE is finished being built there?

Not sure on when it’s supposed to be finished but given it’s nowhere near how much they spent at Concord, training there full time would be a waste. If eventually they decide to upgrade the one at Campbelltown to be equal value or better to the one at Concord, then eventually maybe you can make the decision to train there full time. Otherwise we’re just making ourselves weaker moving into a facility that cost $50 million less than where we currently train.

For what % of the squad? You are pigeon holing this to accomodate a tiny number of juniors who will actually make it to the nrl. The majority or nrl squads these days are imported.

Not really.

Lets say a big name player hits the open market.. they have the choice of concord, Campbelltown, Bondi, Manly, Newcastle, Stgeorge or Cronulla.

Personally, the last place on that list for me is Campbelltown.

Again, I think you are trying to accomodate a small few - because the majority of NRL squads arent local juniors

Unfortunately you're right.
