Tim Sheens paid $8,650 a week to do nothing

Surely they could make him do SOMETHING until an agreement is reached. BTW i'm not in the corporate world or even a contractual one, so maybe somebody can answer me this: When contracts are paid out in instances like this, are they usually paid in full?

They are usually a "negotiated" outcome. It takes both parties to properly negotiate. Sheens is standing his ground which he is entitled to do. He wants as much as he can get and WT management want to pay out the least they can.

If WT won't come close to a figure that Sheens agrees to, then Sheens hangs around and gets paid his full entitlements.

Everyone is up in arms but it is all WT's fault. Sheens is not at fault here.

Having said that, the best hope of a quick settlement would be for Sheens to find another coaching gig ASAP because then this mess would have to be settled as we are his current employer.

Very well said Guest!

Both parties entered into the contract and agreed to its terms. Sheens could have gone to Penrith and eaned good cash but the Tigers Management decided to entice him to stay. It wasn't Humphreys decision, it was a board decision. In the end it was a very poor decision, although we had had a couple of successful years at the time.

If there was a legal avenue out, do you not thing the Tigers would have pursued it! You cannot make him sit in an office and answer the phone as this was not what the contract stipulated that his role would be. He entered into the contract as head coach. He would be head coach tomorrow if the Tigers hadn't ejected him.

Sheens would not be enjoying the bad press over this and it does not look good for his image either. I would have thought this would help motivate him to agree to a settlement with the club.

This is contract law, both parties agree to the terms to enter it and both parties have to agree to the terms to exit it. Just ask MIcky Arthur.

Sheens knows better than anyone how to play the game.
While he is getting paid I still feel he is part of the club and maybe he believes if he hangs around long enough a new opportunity could present itself at the club if/when the current coach is let go.

As the owner of a small buisness in all honesty i could'nt take money for doing nothing, i would never be able to then guarantee my customers satisfaction. If it were me i would still be contributing to the club in what ever capacity they needed me to. Legally Sheen's may be right but morally he's acting like a child. If he were to still contribute in some way he would have already found a new coaching gig somewhere else for his professionalism under extreme circumstances. No one in their right mind will hire him now, his payout in my opinion may have cost him his long term coaching career at another club. He has just proven how stubborn and lazy he is. If it were me i would still be turning up every day doing something for my money, if i chose not to turn up then i'd just choose to annul the contract with the board's concent and move on, with their blessing, i'll be the first to admit our board are absolute filth but in the workplace or buisness you never burn bridges or make promises you can't keep. " If we don't make the eight this year i'll walk ".

Unfortunately for you and I,Sheen's is not like us,he is a stubborn old fool who got over taken by the modern game and wouldn't change to keep up,I hope he loses out in court, and he gets some well deserved bad press.

As CQ said , it is all our own fault ,when the senile old fool was mumbling about going to Penrith ,we should of grabbed a one way express bus and locked Benji and Moltz on with him and sung Hallelujah at the tops of our lungs as they left

Yes a contracts a contract, but once again Sheens strikes me as a person with a massive ego, and that ego has taken a hit, so his going to make them pay.

I would have thought most reasonable people would have been able to broker a fair settlement, maybe a fifty percent reduction,I mean lets face it 200 grand a year is not chicken feed.I just hope all this will come back and bite him and see him disappear from the game.

The bottom line, what ever pain we are going through we are a better club without him

I have a feeling he'll end up like a Colin Love, Bob Fulton,…..a finger in every RL pie going and feeding off the game

Make him earn his wage.

Inside a dunk tank at every home game. $2 a pop with profits from each ground going to a different charity

Good on him I say. Take what your owed. I'm amused to read in the article that tigers officials are furious. I wonder if its the same ones that got us here, and if it the same ones who want to have potter paid next year to do nothing aswell.

Paying 3 coaches in the one year, thats Parramatta stupid.

No coincidence is it ….. The worst two boards sees their clubs running last and second last.
Proves the point that games are won just as much off the field as it is on it.

Blame Humphries for re-signing him at end of 2011 when he could have made a fresh start at Penrith and WT could have started fresh with a new coach and we may have had a better 2012 & 2013

Humphries paid the price for his poor decision making in re-signing him.. WT is now paying for it literally.

What is disgraceful the anonymous, faceless mugs on the board agreeing to extend Sheens' contract in 2011\. That is the real joke.

When the interest from Penrith was made apparent, our incompetent board panicked and gave him a shiny new contract. The blame lies with them.

For what its worth, some people have linked Humpty to Parras CEO job, nothing really important about that, just thought it would give a few laughs!

Good luck to Sheens and his choosing to not set foot in the place. He is entitled to his money and I wouldn't think it would do our club any good whatsoever to have someone hanging around who doesn't want to be there, no good would come of it.

The deadbeats that organized his massive contract extension should be the ones copping the abuse from the supporters and members of our club.

Bottom line, the club and Sheens needs to work something out. I agree we can't expect Tim to walk away with nothing, but a compromise needs to be hammered out, which is what they are doing I guess.

If i were Sheens i wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to sort anything out. This is the clubs fault and the clubs fault alone. As big of a critic i am of the guy he's not doing anything that i or id bet the majority of this forum wouldn't do if they were in the same position. Sure its not ethical what he's doing considering statements he's made in the past, but when im making nearly 10 grand a week for doing nothing, id say to hell with ethics as well.

The board are the ones to blame, they should all be sacked for the predicament they have put the club in. The only problem is, who sacks the board? they can basically do whatever they want. They must thank god they don't have to answer to members at AGM's. If they did, every last one of them would be leaving in body bags.

The ACB sorted the settlement out with Mickey Arthur fairly quickly. As you'd expect a professional outfit would. Us on the other hand…..

If I remember correctly many many people (including on here) were doing cartwheels when we re-signed Sheens. We were a top 4 side with huge expectations, and Sheens was in big demand.

Without the advantage of a crystal ball, no one foresaw the place turning to shite. So it's just abit funny to see how public opinion has turned against the board when at the time people were high fiveing the fact Sheens was locked in for the foreseeable future.
