Tim Simona To The Sharks?

If the dragons didn't get chase because his ESL payments would be included in their cap then the same logic would apply with the tiger shark players… Whatever we are contributing would be counted in the sharkies cap

what annoys me is that cronulla were the highest fined club in 2012 for salary cap breaches, they always crying poor and going cap in hand to the NRL for advances and then come out offering contracts to anyone on the market - the hierarchy need to police the whole thing a lot more closely.

They got fined 150k and thats without the 200k we are helping them with..so they are 350k over the cap, wow.

This is incorrect. Massively.

The Sharks had a 30k 3rd party sponsor deal that was not known about. Once discovered, they alerted the NRL. They still got a fine, in the vasinity of 150k as someone at the club knew about it.

It wasn't exceeding the salary cap, or the 2nd tier cap. It was poor management of 3rd party deals.

Bingo. Andrew Fifita is being paid 300k on the Sharks books. Tigers are just helping pay it.

You'd think the Sharks would have learnt after Dean Collis… Ayshford is a reasonably solid NRL player but his career has stalled badly. Whether a change of club is the answer remains to be seen but I don't think his departute is anything to lose sleep over.

Sharks are VERY short on centres. Ayshford is better than Pomeroy.

Are you sure about that? I was pretty sure Fifita isn't one of the back-loaders; Tigers had an option on him 2012 that they didn't take, which makes 2012-13 non-contracted years. He only debuted 2010, which would probably have been his first Top-25 contract, no need to backload it at that stage?

It's not Fifita, Morris or Ryan. It's Gibbs and Heighington we're still paying who are at the Sharks.

Man I am really liking they way that Mayer and Potter are going about their business. Clearing out some of the perennially average and non-performing dead wood to make way for young guys that have the Xfactor. We put up with it being the other way around for so long, under Sheens - that's why the team has been so unbalanced. Now finally someone can recognise the best players to keep and the ones that need to go - it's like a breath of fresh air!

I agree completely, is feeling more honest, if I may say,

After 9 pages has there been any developments on this?

I think the developments are this.

1\. Sharks show interest in Ayshford
2\. Sharks show interest in Simona after Panthers clash
3\. Sharks turn to the off contract Simona after Melbourne clash.
4\. Simona's form continues to shine.
5\. Tigers realize they have a battle on their hands.
6\. Tigers offer Moltzen, Ayshford, Blair to anyone who's interested and have been for a while.
7, Tigers seriously trying to offer Ayshford to Sharks in the hope of keeping Simona.

What i do see is that Simona's preference is obviously to stay but our cap is the issue. The fact there's been no solution yet, from the Simona point of view is a good thing for now.

If ayshford leaves do we still have to pay the difference?? i.e, he is on 300k now, 200k at sharks or wherever. Do we have to pay 100k to the sharks cap? Same with moltzen.

Or is it different if they ask for a release?

Spot on. Great way to describe it Phil.

Certainly everything being done seems much more logical and clear compared to when sheens was running the show.

We would mate. Hopefully the UK might be an option for some of these blokes, then it won't have to be taken in our cap.

Aussie dollar and new uk tax laws make the ESL option less rewarding than in the past

They are also cutting down to 12 teams in 2015, so there won't be as large a need for Aussie players as there currently is.

That's probably gonna just weed out the poor players. So players of Ayshford's calibre will still be desired I think.

Yeah it will but it also, weeds out 12 possible imports from the two teams leaving, meaning 12 players will stay in nrl,

sharks signed aysh. simona seems safe

big gamble from our side though- a proven performer like aysh with a up and coming youngster with 10 games under his belt.

i think we made the right call though and hope it works out

2\. they are always crying poor and asking NRL for advances - fact
3\. they are linked to just about anyone who is on the market - slight exaggeration
