Time For Benji Marshall to Retire

To be fair, he made up for it with the last try..and possibly looked like the only one that could get us going. The same cannot be said for the other half who is yet to prove to me that he is capable of leading this team. Ever.

@hobbo1 Its not the crap coaches its the crap players and crap players are all the club seems to be able to attract. Now if we had no salary cap like one particular club who is full of internationals it would be a different story.

Disagree ...
A fit Reynolds is better than a fit Marshall
Mbye shouldn’t have played
Liddle should be starting with the pensioner off the bench ...
Packer if fit should be made to play ..
Taylor isn’t a dummy half ..
I’m done with this crap 💩

Coaches choices !

Time for Benji Marshall to retire. A summary of his round 21 game vs the Bulldogs:
* Dumb penalty which led to a try.
* Intercept pass which directly led to a try.
* 20 hospital passes.
* Kicking game was worse than Ben Roberts in his prime.
* No running game, which for a 6 is Darius Boyd-like.
* Brought zero energy. Considering he was our captain after Mbye went off, that's the most disappointing part.

He should've shown some leadership at the end there and taken the goal kick himself. It was irresponsible to allow Momirovski to take that kick.

Get off the Kool- Aid.

The fault wasn't Benji's or Brooks' tonight.

It was the pedestrian service from hooker that we always get whenever Elijah Taylor plays at hooker. Our forwards had zero momentum, the slow passes saw Brooks either having to stop moving to catch the ball or wait for it to arrive to him, by which time the defence was onto him, giving him no room to move, let along create.

This the leads to Benji calling for more ball and running sideways a lot. It's not Taylor's fault either. He's a back rower forced to do a job he's not great at.

@Kazoo-Kid I would prefer to keep Benji for another 3 years if that meant we could get rid of the purest of plodders in Brooks. Brooks offers nothing, never had anything and will not find anything in the future.

And this is coming from a WT fan that has always believed Benji is one of the most overrated players ever to play in the NRL.

You know absolutely NOTHING about football.

Back to the basement.

Who’s he trying to fool ?

Open your eyes benji you tool !

That is the one that lost me on him for good. The final nail in he coffin.

Dogs terrible...us tons of ball....8-0 about to become 12....just need composed set...

And our 34 yo throws a no look pass.

A play that has a 1/5 chance.

I love that. Can someone go back to 2005 and tell him not to throw the flick pass to Pat Richards!!

It was the right play then...broken field, 2 on 1. Winger with great hands.

It was not the right play tonight or 1000 other times since 05.

Can we please stop dining out on 2005?

@shane2801
One cog? Look, I agree he should retire, but suggesting that Galea or Skando deserve equal credit for 2005 is going too far. In 2005, as in 2011-2012 he was arguably the most damaging player in the world - consistently. But alas it didn’t last.
@ElleryHanley Benji isn’t like Thurston. He is more of a freak like Inglis or Hayne. Could win any match on his day with freakish plays. Won’t be an all time great due to career inconsistency and poor leadership.
Still love the guy and chuffed as f that he is/was ours.

His legacy has been so tarnished he has nothing left to play for in the NRL. Time to go.

If he stayed out of the game from 2013, decades from now he would have been fondly remembered by all league fans and Tiger fans in particular as a 'what if?' A ridiculous talent that could have gone on to do anything, surely he would have gone on to deliver us more premierships if only he stayed on in league. After all he he had delivered 2005, was a golden boot winner, NZ Tri nations and World cup legend, finals player 2010, 2011, he was at the peak of his powers when he left just ready to blossom into an immortals career, he could have been the best that league had ever seen, if only he stayed on.

Sometimes its best not to see 'what if' and leave that fantasy in your mind.

Smash cut to current year, all his highlight packages are pre 2012 and he delivers this tripe he dished up tonight week after week.

Bye Benji, it could have been great.........if you stayed away.

@bigsiro

Hayne is a good comparison actually.

Inglis is not, he is a legit all time great.

Hayne was 1 good thing 5 duds also...one great finals run also. A good comparison.

2003 debut
2005 premiership
2006-09 injuries and adjusting to life after Prince, didn't play all that well. Sheens had Morris at halfback, and then asked benji to organise, it never really worked out, but it wasn't all Marshall's fault that he wasn't really able to play his natural game. He adjusted tried his best but it didn't work out.
2010 great year for tigers
2011 another good year
2012 Tigers imploded
2013 Mick Potter happened
2014-17 Benji not here
2018-19 We want to blame these two years on Benji Marshall?

What's happened since 2005 is a huge amount of mismanagement, with boards replacing boards and coaches flying out the window, and prior to his return he was away for about four years. How'd we go then? If the club had money and better management he'd have gone on to win a lot more for us. In what he's done for us irrespective of that, he's brilliant.

He's done it successfully plenty of times since then too. Here's Wayne Bennett, from Wikipedia:

"Benji equals anybody I've seen in terms of flair, and making something happen. He is a remarkable talent, born out of living on the edge. That's the way he is. He was made to be a footballer."

You want him to stop?

You can thank Robert Lui for 2010 and 11.
Once he left it went to crap again.

I know its well established that the Tigers club are low IQ but youd think theyd put the pieces together. 2005 we had a halfback Prince - premiership. 2010/2011 we had a halfback Lui - deep into the finals.

2007-2009 no halfback, no finals
2013 - now, no halfback, no finals.

Can we get a half and a goal kicker for the love of Christ!!!!!

Hayne never led his country to a world cup, never won a premiership and he was a poor influence on his club and fell out of favour because he always looked disinterested (and probably was). I don't think he was ever as good as Benji, but I suppose pointless comparisons are worthwhile?
