Do not want sound negative and he is a nice bloke, but he is the most overrated player I have seen in almost 5 decades of watching footy.
He has never been able to lead a team to the semis, never been able to come through in must win games when the main guy.
For those who want him to stay on, here is one simple question: why will Benji in 2020 be any different?
So 2005 grand final was good. I think he played well that year.
2008 World Cup. Watch the game, he played pretty well in that too.
You're not wrong that he's inconsistent and that he can make really bad decisions in important games. But in your almost 50 years of watching rugby league how many tigers premierships have you watched? And how was Benji that season? And how many times have NZ won the world cup? Once. And who won them that game?
I get that Benji is connected to our years of futility, and he deserves to be. But how can you overrate a players who is the main reason we won a premiership and who won the world cup for New Zealand? Those two victories alone are more then most players achieve, and the fact he took major underdogs on his back to do it is proof of his quality.
I agree his form has been bad in prior years, but he's been a different player this year, much more composed and much more effective. Tonight was a bad night, but it doesn't define his career.
Why have him back in 2020? He's better than Reynolds and we don't have anyone else.
