Time is right for Folkes

With all the changes, it's time we make a play for Folkes. I think most supporters want him here, and with a new culture building within, we need muscle and mental toughness, not to mention win at all costs.

Yep, we need someone like him
Involved with the club, his mental toughness can prove very valuable.

Folkes could be seen as going back around as he was at the club before. Either way Potter is the coach and Folkes should only be welcome at the club, if Potter chooses so.

yes please to Folkes.

Both Potter and Folkes are ex team mates from the great Canterbury team of the 80's.

We were a much better side with Folkes in our ranks.

My coaching team for 2014.

Potter
Payten
Folkes

been thinking this for a while.
payten will be really helpful coz he probably knows most of the kids inside out.
can be a real communication asset between players and the coach.

I know we did well when Folkes was here as a strength and conditioning coach, how much did he have to do with that is questionable, it is not often that a S & C coach gets much credit or blame for a teams success or failure, in fact Steve Folkes in 10/11 is the only time I can ever remember this being the case.

Either side of that he hasnt exactly been a raging success. He did well with the bulldogs but had enough lean years at the end to get the sack, and since moving to St George they have done poorly…...not sure bringing him back is that high on my priority list.

His defence is what got us over the line. His impact with potter is likely to be FAR less than it was with Sheens.

Sheens = attack
Folkes = defence

So, we were complete in 2010/11, and very poor in 2012 in defence. Potter's in the middle but folkes would still help our defence.

Also, the dragons (who he is with now) have been very strong in defence and very poor in attack 333 points against, which puts then as the BEST defensive team in the bottom 8 even though they're 2nd last.

Certainly a great coaching team there.

For me its more that when he was here we looked more committed, stronger, less injury prone and were competitive for longer each match.

When he left we went backwards in many areas he would usually have a voice in.

So with Folkes being told he won't be needed next year, and he and Potter having a good relationship, seems like a no brainer that we should at least be interested.

I remember Folkesy saying that the boys were not allowed to zone out with headphones during weight sessions when he arrived at Wests. I liked the attention to discipline (as above) he bought with him
