Titans capitulation...opposed to WTs ...

Panthers missing half their team to origin and they cruise to a full strength Bulldogs.
The question is, how do we get to that position of strength and depth of talent?
In our 22 year history our strike rate for playing finals footy is abysmal. Michael Maguire did not do this to the club. It’s a reflection of the club’s history of poor decision making.
100% agreed.

Every few years we hear "it's a development year". Yet we don't actually do Development. We don't have a real 4 year plan or organised that solid football.
Each year it's "make the 8".

I would be up for us forward loading for 2 years just so that we do "make the 8". Sign top tier even if they cost overs.. But even then that's still temporary planning.

What I haven't seen is a good plan to boost our clubs weaknesses. Here is our performance on defense, who are the best defensive coaches that can help. How could the Tigers go to being the best defensive side in the comp??? Imagine a whole year spent on defense, we wouldn't come last, but maybe 14th (we will come that anyway).

Next year with that defensive structure in place and occasional refreshers, we get to the top 4.
Yet we never seem to get the groundwork right.

We’ve had a strong focus on defence a couple of times and each time we stop scoring tries. What does that tell you?

I think we are a muddle of geographies ,Tigers in the Glebe to West Ryde strip then all the suburbs 5-10 k circle around Lidcombe and Thirdly the new growth area of Campbelltown. What we need is One club ,One home ground of equal size and quality to comm bank and One Wests Tigers leagues club nearby
I know I'm pipe dreaming but after 2005 that should have been the singular plan

I'm in no way defending the club but a few things on this

- It's clear we haven't had money and as such we haven't had a clear strategic plan in place before, Pascoe cops it alot here but he has somehow managed to get our books looking good to invest in areas we stopped/haven't been able to before (COE/Juniors/Full cap spend etc)

- We appear to have money now and are starting to reinvest in the pathways, with covid hitting it has delayed things somewhat but it's very very clear that we are investing in that area + have quality ex players leading the charge as well.

- regarding defensive structures, it was clear we worked on this big time in the offseason and our results showed that during the start of the year. Cayless did a great job here. The issue was we applied soooo much effort into it that we lost any ability to attack. Something changed (suspect Sheens told Madge to open the attack up) and we put more effort into attack than defence and we are now back to letting 30pts a game in but our points scored has doubled. It's clear our squad is either not fit enough, isn't good enough or our coaching isn't doing it's job well or a combination of everything as we can't seem to do more than 1 thing well for a game at a time.

100% agreed except to 100% disagree

Madge had 2 years to work out what was needed and brought:
2x premium centers.
Ditched our development hookers and got Api Koroisau.
Realised that we needed a structural half and brought Hastings.

Madge has made far better hiring decisions then Cleary and Sheens.

Madge has failed to coach the team and improve the Wests tigers in our weak areas:
Defense
Grit/staying power
Structured attack (and Madge is an attacking coach).

When the Bulldogs were playing under Dean Pay, they would turn up. They would loose, but they would defend their line and tackle hard. Likewise Cronulla when they were coming 16th. Were not turning up most games!

That's why we should fire Madge. Not because he has hired badly, every coach stuffs hiring occasionally. We should fire Madge because we have not technically improved and still appear to be playing randomball.
I personally think we’ve turned up more games then we haven’t this year.

Edit: Arguably at least 7.5 of the 12.
