missing 14 finals series in 17 years should be a wakeup call

Embarrassing. And some think a coaching change will solve everything lol.

It won't but it's a bloody good start

Not when you've already sacked the one before him with pretty much the same squad. At what point do we collectively put the responsibility on the players? Blaming the coach is an cop out and a excuse not to focus on the role the players play. When we do sack him and don't move forward we'll call for the next coach to be sacked too.

who's job is it to recruit players, his call or is that buckets job? He has had the team for two years, how long are the player contracts. Isnt the average contract 2 or 3 years with options?

And like everyother year when people previewing the 2017 season will have the Tigers where that always are with this Canberra game in mind and analyse us with a bottom 4 finish, again..

No. The old tigers management preferred 4 year back ended contracts with further options in the players favour

Ouch! No wonder players are inconsistent, 4 years what a comfort, a luxury, in a results driven industry

Let's stick to the thread and whether the game was a wake up call or not. No, it wasn't a wake up call, it was a smack to the mouth and a kick up the backside for being smug and lazy. How the team couldn't put in a proper effort, similar to the one we saw against the Cowboys is beyond me. It was a very disappointing effort. Actually it was a pathetic effort and the mantra going into next season should be work, work, work! Anyone, not buying into this should be immediately sacked, no questions asked, no second chances.

Spot on.
Lets not sugarcoat it we ran 9th with the Eels docked competition points and a few terrible teams this year Knights, Manly, Warriors, STGI along with the Roosters and Souths well below their usual best and squad strength. We may struggle to get to 6th position next year.

Um, that's why we have 26 rounds. To see who was better over an extended period. As it turns out, we were 9th best this year. To say we only got 9th because the others were rubbish is folly. We were less rubbish overall. And don't compare to a cheating club that fielded a better team than they were allowed to. We might have been pretty ordinary at times this season, or even woeful, but we were also pretty good on occasion. Just not often enough and hopefully a few strategic alterations to the roster or some ear whispering into a few under performers ears might change things a little.

I thought the Panthers game with everything to play for was a wake up call. But today was an atomic bomb. I really hope its a wake up call for higher powers to see that with the season on the line in front of a packed crowd, and we get absolutly smashed. If JT cant get them up for this game he never will.

Look at Penrith great juniors but have recruited experienced players were needed. Made the tough call to let go of some big name highly paid players.

Made an even bigger call to sack their coach in the off season for someone that could take them to the next level.

We need to make such a call on Jason Taylor

Flawed argument. Hard to use Penrith as an example when we haven't recruited anyone.

Maybe. I think any good player that was to come to the Tigers in the next few years will want overs money wise, can't see really good players beating down the door to be coached by Jason Taylor or rush to a club that treats a long standing player like Robbie in such a way.

Any good player would stay well away from us at the moment.

The real disaster is how poorly we have been managed salary cap wise to have this rooster and not have plenty of cap space to recruit players (we are paying a lot of average, local juniors or fringe first graders well over their worth).

i dont think yesterday was an example of them believing their own hype. i think the occassion got to them and they completely shat themselves. how many of our guys have played in a game as big as that before? woods, dene, taylor, lawrence, grant. 5 of the 17\. everything that could go wrong did go wrong. simona kicking off on the full, moses dropping two basic passes in the first 5 sets. rankin hitting the posts. moses dropping a lose ball where he more then likley would scored (to make it 12-10). it was a complete disasture.

once it got to 18-4 the heads dropped and we never recovered.

I don't think this is right at all.

How can the team be smug and lazy in the final game of the seasons, to make the finals, against arguably the form team of the comp, in front of the Leichhardt faithful?

I refuse to believe any single player took the game lightly, failed to prepare adequately or thought we'd just turn up and win. I cannot imagine any reason why the players would be like that - we are not a good enough team to think we can easily win any game, and the players have nothing else to do with themselves professionally except prepare for matches.

What happened was we turned over cheap ball, there were some really stupid options, and the halves got dominated by a really well-oiled and giant pack.

It is a wake up call to the team, for sure - that it's not enough to be on your game 30-40% of matches and hope to jag a few more wins and sneak into the finals at 50% wins.

I don't think anyone is sugar-coating 9th, but at least it's a helluva lot better than 15th, so it's an improvement.

Arguably if we can improve again next year, and no guarantees we will, but we should be a Top 8 side.

Fair points. I think we need to make hard decisions with a lot of the current roster to be honest - wouldn't be surprised if we shift another 3-4 under contract.
Going into next year with the same coaching team* and largely the same roster is madness given the hierarchy's public quest for a top 4 spot.

* Webster in for Kidwell assumed - but forgive me for not being excited about appointing the assistant of the most under performing team in the competition.

It was a wake up call for the management hopefully that this coach tactics and team Balanced this way ain't gunna work.
A wake up call to the team that they aren't at this level.
A wake up call to our halves who have a long way to go.

Potter was not sacked, his contract was not renewed, big difference, teams needs a coach whom they respect as a man, don't think they respect JT

Same thing. Its still a revolving door of coaches. As far as not respecting JT, i don't think the players would have responded the way they did after Farah was dropped if they didn't respect the coach. He'd have lost them completely.

Season defining games were lost by huge margins. That is a real concern.

Taylor did well to negotiate a 3rd year in his deal, Potter deserved one but his contract was up.

Fellas I hate to tell you but unless several 'marquee' players take a rocket up the @$$ over the off-season (not to mention names), and mature; games like the raiders one will be just as frequent next year or under any coach for that matter. WE Desperately need forwards for next year!!! 😛ray: 😛ray: :deadhorse: :sign:
