**Sydney Roosters' new recruit, Todd Carney, reportedly "set man's pants on fire"**

\
RUGBY league player Todd Carney reportedly injured a man by setting his pants on fire in an incident on New Year's Eve.\
\
The Seven Network reported the footballer, who has a history of behavioural problems, and a companion deliberately set the man's pants on fire, burning his buttocks, scrotum and upper thigh.\
\
The alleged incident occurred at Airlie Beach in North Queensland.\
\
A spokeswoman for the Queensland police said a man had presented to Proserpine Hospital for treatment for "minor'' burns but no official complaint had been received.\
\
Carney is due to play in the NRL with the Sydney Roosters in 2010 after spending a season in the Cairns district competition following his sacking from the Canberra Raiders for repeated misbehaviour and alcohol abuse.\
\
The Roosters, who themselves had a troubled season with player misconduct and performance last year said they only found out about the allegations this afternoon and are yet to speak to Carney._

Unbelievable.

no official complaint had been received

Lets just wait on this one people. Might be like when Paul Gallen "urinated on a mans head"… except he was 15 feet away.

Huh? The bloke is burnt!! I suggest you are saying we should be cautious because Carney may not have been involved ?

Thats true I guess.

If what he's saying is true and it was a prank that went bad (which is the most likely outcome) then they shouldn't do anything about it. There is criminal behaviour, and there is idiocy. As long as players obey the law, it shouldn't matter what they do, although some people out there won't be happy until they are not allowed to drink, smoke, swear, have a 7:30 curfew and are sworn to celibacy.

Whist I agree with your sentiments here mate I dont believe that they should apply to him.

As I have said on here before, I know this clown and have had a few run-ins with him - he is a moron of the highest order.
How many times has he made a public disgrace of himself that you know of?….. 5?, 6? The correct figure is far more accurate if you add a zero.

He is a turd, a loser and a pathetic drunk....thats Todd Carney.

The Roosters are trying so hard to get rid of Mason and they sign this guy. You know it doesn't make sense.

…unlike the moral crusaders here

I'll bite. In this particular instance, the media coverage and reaction may be overblown. But the keywords here are 'this particular instance'.

Carney has a list of crimes - not indiscretions - to his name. He was fired from his former club because he refused to give up the catalyst, that being alcohol, in his crimes. He obviously still has problems with the drink, in spite of being given other chances.

Carney has chosen a career that receives media coverage that looks beyond the game. You might argue that he is just acting his age, that he should be allowed to get on the piss as any other professional would as long as it didn't influence their job. I would argue that while that's true, anything he does needs to be punished so clowns just like him might think twice before emulating him.

That, and he is a tip rat of the highest order who should have been deregistered and forgotten.

The roosters have said they wont sack him, but i think if he wants to have a future in the nrl he should give up the drink.

Airlie Beach is pretty much the rowdiest place in Australia. Everyone is pissed and on drugs and acting like imbeciles. A person like Todd Carney, while under contract to a club that can ill afford indiscretions such as those he is likely to present, should have limitations on where he can be, even in his off time. Allowing the bloke to go to Airlie Beach is asking for trouble.
