Good on you Todd - you have no idea. Take the GF to Brisbane (nowhere else is viable), play all the SOO in other states, that at least will ensure it is the end of you. Unfortunately it will be the end of the NRL as well. Great plan from a recognised pea brain.

Spending budget surpluses on infrastructure is a good idea. Whether or not a particular piece of infrastructure is a good idea is subject to opinion, but reinvesting the money in physical and tangible benefits to the city is a good idea. It creates jobs, it improves the city, it caters for the inevitable population increases.
Personally I believe a world-class city like Sydney, with a massive population over 5M and pushing 8M in 20 years, should have a world-class stadium. In fact I believe it should have one 80-100K world-class and 1-2 smaller ones, which is the plan.
No we don't use Homebush to its full potential every week, which would be ideal, but you need somewhere that can host the premier attractions that Sydney pulls on a regular basis.
The average time to replace a stadium in US for football and baseball is 31 years. Homebush is already 20 years old. Question you have to ask is, if they don't refurb the stadium now (rather than a knockdown), will NSW have the funds in ~11 years to do the work then? It does have to happen eventually. It's the same with SFS which already is 30 years old.
And again I note that the government spent $1.5B to knock down and rebuild the ICC - the original ICC being constructed the same year as the SFS and in 2013 being deemed no longer adequate. Now sure you can keep the old ICC, you can say that conferences and performances don't matter more than hospitals and schools, but there is room for both without excluding one or the other. The ICC rebuild has given us a new 9000 seat theatre (and two smaller ones) plus a 3,600 grand ballroom - biggest in the city. It allows Sydney to draw in and host bigger events, which brings revenue.

Anyway, I digress. If this stadium funding is looking to get pulled, I'm worried about our COE funding via Canada Bay and the separate NSW state grant. I hope pascoe (and Canada Bay) are working very hard on getting the cheque in his hands before the next election. Hopefully, we've learned from Rozelle what happens when a Labor government gets into power.
I honestly believe that this is gold plated bull crap on the ALP's part.
If the current state government have already made agreements with the SCG Trust I believe they will take that to the election as a campaign promise, get elected and then backtrack saying that it will cost far more to weasel out of it than to just continue on.

Greenberg has gone off threatening the Labor Party with a wet lettuce. It doesn't seem to be a particularly astute play as it has the potential to seriously weaken the NRL position should the Opposition gain power.

Think about it. If you have a local hospital, you don't have to travel as far. For each person in the hospital, there are sometimes as many visitors (some people get many, others get no one). If that saves 30 minutes off a journey then that's 30 minutes back into the economy.
Likewise if a hospital isn't rejecting someone, then they are more likely to fix them on the first trip.
The Northern beaches hospital is crap because it's a heavily privatised hospital. I see it everywhere, don't do anything in house. Contract everything out. Suddenly maintenance isn't yelling at an internal staff to unclog a sink, it's forms at 20 paces, 3 competitive quotes then 5 weeks for it to be fixed by someones cousin.
Over bureaucracy. Privitisation = Lots of Bureaucracy.
I can't justify us rebuilding 2 stadiums at all. ok I like my footy but we don't need these. Small bars and outlets where I can hear a band play, sure. Not stadiums. One stadium rebuild means Sydney gets a mega capacity venue, which makes sense. Two means we have two venues barely used most of the year.
Spend it on health, spend it on transport, spend it on anything else. Hey we could be talking 70 NRL teams for that same price (as Nathan Tinkler brought the Knights for 10 Million)

Greenberg's got nothing to lose here. If Liberals win, he gets the stadiums the NRL lobbied for, if Labor win, Greenberg is given licence to take the GF elsewhere.
If he'd just decided to move the GF to the highest bidder without any political threat, there would have been uproar, but if Labor "force" him to do it, he has justification.
I personally have no problem if Brisbane or, god forbid, Melbourne host a GF if they fill the stadium and make it a spectacle. It would be good for the game, same as how they are moving Origin around to different spots.
If Sydney wants the mortgage on GFs, and I'm from Sydney, then the city has to maximise the code's infrastructure IMO. GFs and SOO are lucrative to the economy.
