Todd Payten names NYC team to play Storm

Wests Tigers Coach Todd Payten has named his side to play Melbourne Storm at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday, September 1, in the final round of the NYC competition.

Despite a 40-16 loss to the Roosters last Sunday, the fifth placed Wests Tigers remain in the hunt for fourth place if they can beat the eighth placed Melbourne Storm. Wests Tigers also need the Broncos (12th) to defeat the Panthers (4th) on Friday night.

Payten knows a win is crucial on the eve of the finals.

“Although we took a thumping on the scoreboard last week, we were the better side for large periods of the game and can take confidence out of it,’’ Payten said.

“The last 25 rounds account for nothing. The boys know that from here on in, they need to make it count.”

todd i hope u play golf because u only have 2 games left this year.after watching that game last week u need to come up with some better ideas in attack and a hellav better defensive structure than the one ur using, the 1/2s are two deep and dont take on the line, the 5/8 is kick happy. The best attacking player nofoaluma is wasted on the wing, remember next season is a long way of unless u come up with some better ideas. Best of luck.

Payten has ertainly learned off Sheens;
* Lose 40-16 yet were the better side for large periods.
* Playing people out of positions. Rudolph on the wing this week!!!
* The team clocking off for large periods of each game (and giving up big leads)

The first thing I would have done after the game last week would have been to tell the 6 that if he kicks the ball again inside the 20 it would be going whre the sun doesn't shine. Leave the kicking to Miller, the strength of this team is out wide and that is where the ball needs to go.

agree!
mind you Miller did not kick well either.

I think he should move Rudolf back to five eight, he played his best footy there.

Agree with both of you! Miller also needs to attack the line! He's playing so predictable atm!!

Much better.

macdougall, that is a much better line up, but like sheens u can bet money he sticks with same old game plan and goes out the back door.

Last week was only the second time this year that I was able to see the 20's on TV.

I was really unimpressed with:
Kyle Lovett (whom I thought was excellent last I saw him)
Brendan Santi
Jacob Miller
The five eighth who wasn't listed this week.

However I was really impressed with:
Soni Paasi
Ben Saunders
Mosese Fotuaika
Nathan Brown

Through the grapevine, I don't think the named team will be the team that actually runs out on Sat?!!! Expect changes!!!

Much better.

Def much better but I would swap Rowe back to 1 & Nofoaluma to 2 or even in the centres!

If these boys start swinging it wide like they used to, Nofoaluma is the danger man for the opposition! IMO we don't want Nofoaluma in fullback when the boys are not offloading like they used to…..Rudolph is there 95% of the time hunting for an offload especially around the tackle, yet no-one gives it! Last sunday for example, tackle 2 on the very 1st set, if the forward hadve given the easy ball out to Rudolph we were guaranteed an easy try as we had the numbers and options around the ball. But to no avail, no offload!!
We need the playmakers to get their hands on the ball and at the moment that's not happening often enough!!
As for the kicking, leave it to Miller but he sure needs to fire up, stand up, attack the line and start leading by example!

Payten is another jobs for the boys Addition have commented on his coaching ability or lack of previously… Last weeks game was another example of the inexperience that being a first year coach brings, should of started in the lower grades and built on that. You should coach a team to play at your opponents weaknesses not there strengths!
