Sure, I can understand that with time a player develops. They say around the 50 first grade games mark. He has good leg drive and some potential. BUT , how do you change a slow winger to all of the sudden into a fast winger which is what wingers are supposed to be & is something our team lacks. I mean, the fastest player in our team is our clumsy 5/8 Brooks.!
Or am I missing something here?

I don't think Talau is playing in his correct spot ......but how do you sho you can play 6 when you are out on a wing

I imagine he is on the wing out of necessity

But if he is going to play in the back 5 I agree ....he needs to find some speed

Where exactly is he going to find speed if he is not fast, that intercept against the roosters the other week, most fast wingers score from an intercept in the same position, if it was the other way around and say Brett Morris got that intercept, do you think he would have been rundown? Morris is 34 years old !!!!

A decent sprint coach will always find a yard or two ...especially in the first 5-10 yards ...probably the most crucial yards on the footy field

The other way sprint coaches help is maintaining your high end speed for longer

Stop there pays
They’d soon find an extra yard

The kid is average , he finds it hard to break the line and and he is no speedster .

Who have u been watching......

I respect your opinion

But the keyboard warriors atm are a bit over the top

Been solid last few games, probably in first grade a year too soon but no reserve grade. Everyone has a shocker so can give him a pass

Unfortunately between him and douehi, our better performers most the year basically sunk the S.S Tigers last night

Well his 1st real season with 10 games this year.
One alarming stat 71.4% tackle efficiency and made 55 tackles and missed 17 - So if you look at that stat only having to make 7 tackles on average per game and missing 2.

Had a bad game against the Panthers, think his worst all season and dropped lots of ball when running back.

It i was Madge give him a rest this next game, make him work on some fundamentals like ball security.

Overall Rookie currently pays not to be too harsh considering we have more senior players that have not been consistent for seasons, hard to learn your trade better when others around you more senior can't also perform.

How stupid. A 20 yr old rookie playing out of position in the craziest season in history where he cant see his friends and family has a bad game and people are shocked. Fans of this club dont deserve a good team

Biggest myth of a rookie ive seen in some time. Who has wraps on this guy? Won't make it as a center or winger.

Very poor defender, good for 2 knock ons and 5 missed tackles (usually leading to tries) per game.

The guy is incredibly slow, we don't need more of this. 16 runs for 77 meters is pathetic.

Happy to give Asu Kepoa another crack. Even Jennings wasn't this bad!

Can anyone actually see genuine upside? You can't coach him to be faster which is a big problem in and of itself.

Ditto

dont think i would lose too much sleep if we lost him moving forward.
If we had to we could run with a combo of
Mmbye, Joey L, Momorovski or AD if he shifts to centre if we had to and buy a JAC or johnston or Saab etc or run with a Hoffman on the wing

I think the new approach should be 12 games..then you're out..

Shame that approach wasn’t around about 135 games ago

Yet another player with 'potential' we cling to, but as of yet he has proven nothing exciting. It's not like when Greg Inglis came out for example. Adequate player but I wouldn't get your hopes up till he does something awesome.

How many Greg Inglis’ come around?

I know but I'm saying he hasn't been a standout rookie so I would expect Momorovski to replace him next year. Tommy to be in the first grade squad but I'd expect him not to be consistently in the team ? Get better, use opportunities that arise. If he was a Inglis I'd say consider him a permanent starter 2021

I don’t think Momo will be replacing him next year.

Who is our goal kicker next year. Not Talau.

We need to sign someone. Last year Momo kicked sub 70%

I think Madge’s comments about checking our depth are about him giving an opportunity to guys on the fringe of 1st grade to show what they have. Madge is looking at a clean out

I think we all, myself included, tend to overrate our own young players. We look at them with blinkers on and ignore the context of what is happening around the rest of the league.

Tommy, like a lot of our younger players, is levels below Panthers players of similar ages.

The winger who was on debut for Melbourne today has it. It's easy to look good in a great team but he didn't do anything spectacular. JAC will steal the highlight reels for Melbourne's game today but the other winger has got loads of ability. He deserves some hype. Bellamay wanted Talau, would trade Talau for him any day of the week.

Talau is like any other 10 odd gamer they are not rough enough yet for first grade. It will come
for this kid. You either want to pay top dollar for established first graders or keep developing our players. People complain about over paying and then complain when a 10 game rookie is not up to speed yet. He’s coming into a poor team it’s not the Panthers or Roosters.
