Sure, I can understand that with time a player develops. They say around the 50 first grade games mark. He has good leg drive and some potential. BUT , how do you change a slow winger to all of the sudden into a fast winger which is what wingers are supposed to be & is something our team lacks. I mean, the fastest player in our team is our clumsy 5/8 Brooks.!
Or am I missing something here?

He is not a winger, and never said he was a winger.

he is a 5/8 come centre.

Yes, the fact that he is not a winger.

Okay then, so that must mean that he is a forward , because anybody playing in the 3/4 needs to be fast ,so what’s his position?

Rubbish, everyone in the back line does not need to be fast.

Rubbish, everyone in the back line does not need to be fast.

Paul Mcrgegor, Matt Gidley, Mark McGaw, Gene Miles, Mick Cronin even Paul Whatuira were not that fast but had other skills which compensated.

Talau hasn't exhibited any other skills yet.

That's not to say he doesn't have - but saying he is 5/8 cum centre who has been stuck on the wing is too much of a stretch.

He represented Aust. Schools as a. 5/8.

Matheson Johns will do the hard stuff out of our back third all day long.

Tommy Talau has potential but you are not going to get any better when your forwards do not get over the advantage line nor can you improve when the centre that is inside of you acts like a turnstile in defence. The young bloke has potential it would be a shame if he left us and went to the Storm or raiders and reached his potential because he had better players around him to learn from.

This club has learnt nothing from 2005 onwards.

The forwards not getting over the advantage line don’t make you miss tackles and drop the ball.

We have to start judging players on their contributions. Talau may have a good future in the game and with us but I don't think it will be on the wing.

Ohhhhhh what do we have here? A fact? Might explain why he is doing a pretty good job all things considered in the top grade of footy you can play in a position he is unfamiliar with.

defending next to Mbye, who tackles well when he makes contact, but isnt even in the picture often as he is a serial offender for shooting out of the line, would make you doubt yourself in the defensive structure... that chipping away at the confidence of a rookie probably plays into the dropped balls.

Isnt there some Balmain v Magpies thing we should all be arguing about now the season is done.

Pretty harsh to start turning on rookies playing out of position.

Just reading this thread..... a lot of valuable points for the for and against of TT. My view at this current moment is that he has had a decent go on the wing and now its time to give some other potential young guys a go. Maybe TT comes back in the centres for a run but let’s see what some others have before we make any decisions. What about Matheson Johns, Kei, Bradley, etc?? What did someone once say - “if they’re good enough, They’re ready!”

Well its true.

This what we do every season when we bomb out of contention.

We turn on our rookies and then start going on about Wests v Balmain or some Concord or Liverpool development.

Its boring.

Seen it a million times.

Young guy thrown in with a pack of losers ... seems very willing .. reserve judgment it’s a learning curve at present it’s evident that he is trying hard . A a big off season and not as much pressure with a second season ..hopefully with some quality players around him next season !

Bro Tommy Talau is going to be a star. Just you wait. He is going to be on a 2015 Milford level of hype in 1-2 years.

Yep, I agree. He is one we need to keep. I can't fathom the rubbish that others are piling on him here. Seriously ..... get a life you lot.

I cant fathom someone telling others ***in an internet discussion*** forum titled "Tommy Talau", to get a life.

Firstly the irony and lack of self awareness to tell someone to get a life while posting on the internet is staggering.

Secondly, I wonder what it is that you are supposed to discuss, in a discussion forum, titled Tommy Talau? We just say good things about him and pretend not to see how many times he drops the ball or how many tackles he misses?

I agree. Get a life. ***You are starting an argument with everyone who replies to this thread***. BTW you are going hard at a kid. Nice job, chief. I'm sure your life is full of positivity.

What the hell are you talking about? You tell me to get a life based on your assertion that I am *"starting an argument with everyone who replies to this thread"* .This thread is 7 pages long and my response to TT was my third in the thread. My first post in the thread was me AGREEING with someone and my second was an explanation of the first. HOW THE HELL is that *"starting an argument with everyone who replies to this thread"*. If you are going to make these accusations, please point to these posts of mine which are picking a fight with everyone who replies.

BTW how am I supposed to know that TT is a kid? I would actually assume that someone with enough self assurance that they feel compelled to tell everyone else to get a life would have had some life experience.

In closing, I'd like to thank you for your interest in my life. I indeed have one and its a very full one full of positive and negative but it has never be so vacant that I felt compelled to tell a heap of people who I dont and wont ever know, on an internet forum to GET A LIFE. If or when that day ever does come, I hope I have the self awareness to switch off my laptop and walk outside in the sun.

Im sorry Geo, I tried but this guy wont let up.....

Tiger Tragic (wont call you TT in deference to True Tiger, the True TT) your lack of self awareness is staggering. Lets go to the tape....

First you unironically post ***on an internet forum*** that people who disagree with you about Talau should ***"get a life"***.

Then you double down on your lack of self awareness by suggesting that I look up the meaning of sanctimonious. I assume I would have to look it up because I wouldnt understand what it means but you are intellectually superior and understand what it means? I understand what sanctimonious means, it means "making a show of being morally or intellectually superior to another person"....kinda like when you use a big word and suggest that the other person "Go and look it up" because they wouldnt understand....or when someone has a differing opinion on a subject and you suggest that that person needs to "get a life". That is exactly what sanctimonious means. I suggest you go and google "self awareness".

Hell man, it's a forum of people expressing opinions; nothing more, nothing less.

This was my ENTIRE point. I have a different opinion to you about Talau, nothing more, nothing less and despite the fact that your opinion is different to mine, I accept that not only are you right to hold your opinion, you are completely free to express it on an internet discussion forum about that exact subject. Moreover you have to right to do so without me telling you to go and "get a life". How did you go with the same situation on a forum of people expressing their opinions; nothing more, nothing less?

>That you seem to have lots of them (opinions, that is, .....2144 and counting), surely you are being sanctimonious (google it, if you need to) to take offence at others who express theirs?

Please point me in the direction where I took offence at others expressing their opinion? My calling you out was my third post in this thread, the first was to agree with someone, the second to explain the first, the third to call you out for your lack of self awareness telling everyone to get a life. No offence at expressions of opinions.

I have no interest in your life, at all. I (and others) am just calling you out on unneceassry and ill-informed criticism of a kid in his first year of NRL.

Well lets be accurate. You NEVER called me out (unless you and Kazoo Kid are one and the same and its starting to look a little like that). Please point me to the post where you called me out. unnecessary and ill informed? Well its a forum thread discussing him and all I have ever criticised him for is being slow, frequently dropping the ball and missing a lot of tackles. None of these things are ill informed, they are all backed up by stats and watching the damn games with my own eyes.

Seriously mate what is wrong with you and your mate (or your alt) Kazoo Kid? This is a thread about Talau. I havent said anything controversial and you starting making all of this stuff up?

<to Geo and mods....sorry after you asked to drop it, I was more than prepared to but this guy keeps making these statements, while we are at it can we check IP addresses for Tiger Tragic and Kazoo Kid?)

edit: Just found out that @Tiger-Tragic and @Kazoo-Kid , who both ride in and defend each other and seem to get mixed up at who said what to me joined only two days apart.....what would the odds be...LOL!
