Tony Sukkar #292

I know there's this belief on the board that Sukkar is a barely functional human, let alone a potential 1st grade footballer.

But it seems remarkable to call out a guy who play 60 minutes in pretty much his 1st outing of note, against one of the competition heavy weights, for only offering "6m per hit up" (it was nearly 8m, but semantics) when there is ONLY praise for the efforts of Jack Bird who ACTUALLY only offered 6m per hit up (12 runs, 72m).

Added to that you have Sione Fainu with 2 ineffective tackles, Bird with 5 missed tackles, Royce Hunt with just 5 tackles all the time he was on the field (and 4 runs..) all the while Sukkar misses 1 tackle & completes 22.

Think what you like- but it seems an unreasonable comment based off his first real run out in 1st grade.
.

We have plodders, now we need players who can help us break open and win games. You know, like how the warriors had a young back rower come off the bench and run 50m while bumping off 3 defenders to score the match winning try. We don't have any backrowers like that, in any grade. Sukkars not terrible but he won't ever be a difference maker.

If you think a team of Alex twals would win a game in the NRL you're sorely mistaken

He certainly missed more than one tackle, Willison bumped him off like he was a witches hat to score.

And frankly the views of someone who kept championing Hymel Hunt as an option are a bit hard to take seriously.

I compared Sukkar to Brendan Piakura ex Keebra Park, Aust Schoolboys and came through with the reputation as one of the next big name Broncos. Sukkar more than held his own and I hope it is the start of a long and illustrious career at WTs. I view him as a building block upon which our next team is to be built.
Give me a choice of Sukkar or Piakura and I certainly know who i'd take, as would 99% of all NRL fans.

Why does anyone take what I say seriously??

Wasn't it Twal who ran over the top of Brendan Piakura? He steamrolled him which must be hugely embarrassing to Piakura..

Why do so many not rate this guy?

I've been on the fence because I've watched him since he was 8 years old. He dominated as as kid but he didn't have that mongrel. He was a nice kid who just did what he had to so I thought he would never be tough enough to make it. But the 3 games he has played this he has looked great.

Coming on against Brisbane we were being carved up and he defended his side fantastic. He then came on last week against Melbourne when we were getting pumped and was our best defender.

Then tonight he looked like a beast. He runs a great line, has post contact metres, and looks strong in defence. His hit on Campbell Graham was superb.

Then you say he is only 20.

Deadset, I reckon we have a backrower here. Left or right, it doesn't matter, but he looked good on the left tonight.

I've defended Seyfarth but he really is someone who doesn't have the talent for the edge. He is a middle who can play 8 to 12 games a year.

Sukkar must start next game

Galvin cops the most shit. Yet he will more premierships than anyone else apart from Luai and Turuva. It wasn't the player. It was the coach. No matter what your name is.

He’s a player for sure. I like the look of the kid runs powerfully and well balanced. Looks a powerful kid.

Stands out among garbage.

That may be the case, but certainly earns a chance to see if he can be consistently better than the current garbage.

In actual fact, if you can make all your tackles and look strong carrying the ball as a kid in an environment of mediocrity than doesn't that speak volumes? I'd suggest this is a keeper. I mean we hear all the time about players will be better in better teams, well this KID looks better in a shit team.

Benji has his flaws but the kids defence is woeful. He has potential Galvin but he’s not a first grader.
