Top 5 Juniour Prospects IYO

Seve's an Ipswich boy as well so I hope they both make it big KS

Obviously some don't rate Milone and I don't watch him every week but he always looks the goods when I watch him play

What are people's issues with Milone ??

More like top 5 junior prospects only to get spread to the other teams. Impossible we can keep them all. Unless of course - we get tom cruise.

Obviously I hope as many of our juniors make it as possible, and as many with the Tigers as possible.

The references to Renouf were made by coaches up in QLD that Seve just had that natural balance and ball running ability and he reminded them of a Renouf style of player. As he fills out he could become a very dangerous and elusive runner of the ball.

It's a big step up from NYC to NRL and the majority of players who do make the step up are standouts, and as a back they score a try a game. Something Seve and Heleta have done, along with the likes of Koro and Nofo in the past. You look at the likes of Walker, Mata'uaita, Mamo, Holmes, MacDonald they are dominant at NYC level, as defences simply aren't very good.

Then there are others like Rowe and Mullaney who dominated at NYC but have struggled to take the step up.

Milone has never dominated at NYC level, and usually its the other side of the field which contains the strike players the team looks to score points from. He has never been a strike weapon for the side. Now there are others on here who have watched him more times than me, but from the games i've seen he's just a small guy, with not a huge amount of pace, with bad hands, makes a lot of mistakes and has a poor decision making process in both attack and defence. Hogs the ball when he should pass it, gets caught out of position in defence and can't recover etc. He did seem to have a step on him and apparently he took the leadership role upon himself after Lovett went up to NSW Cup.

With so many standout players across the comp, its usually not too hard to spot those who potentially can make the step up and for us the likes of Martin and Cherrington are certainties. The others mentioned could still go either way.

Obviously Seve has had his shoulder recon which has put his development back and the size of some of the others will leave a question mark over their heads until they show what they can do at a higher level, but the potential's there!

It's very exciting to see these kids coming through and we are obviously a very fortunate club to have the wealth of junior talent but let's all just hope we also have strong management and coaching staff to adequately support, nuture and compliment the talent coming through.

Question is: if Martin is as good a prospect as many forum pundits say, where would he possibly fit in? Tedesco retained for a few years at FB, Moses and Brooks lined up for the halves…

If we lose Austin, he'll be especially needed, in the very unlikely case there might be injuries…

Is it just me or is funaki incredibly slow? As mentioned he runs great angles and at junior level being big and able to run angles will score him tries. However when he gets to playing men he won't be that big and will need to add something else to his game to be successful

Nathan Milone out injured at the moment will be in the top 25 next year.

I very much doubt it, and recall you calling me an idiot or something for saying he wont be in the 25…look forward to having the last laugh.

I wont give a top 5, But see Cherrington as our best and Martin as the other who looks like a first grader to me.

Do we count Lovett?? I think he still could be good, I expected a bit more this year, but still.

I feel our whole back row has a chance of playing NRL,but Funaki did not kick on like I would have hoped. Seve looks super talented to me, my concern is he when he has no space he struggles a bit with contact which may be an issue at the next level.

I did think last years Aus Schoolboy team was weak, but he was near the best, and thought he was as good as Sione Matau'tia, if he ends up that good we will be stoked.

I reckon Grahem good go on to be a job done front rower, nothing flash but consistent, he may well be a Luke Douglas Type.

The kid who started the season a fullback Alofa, looked dynamic as hell, wouldnt surprise me if he made it as a winger if he kicks on for next year.

I heard Milone and Bailey mentioned. I dont really rate Milone any more, when he arrived he had promise, but is no better now than we he got here, I love Bailey Sironen's attitude and heart, and he is a chance to make it on that alone, given his lineage, he will get looked at, and the fact he is so competitive and tough may be enough. He doesnt have the skill level or size of his brother. If he makes it, he will be a fan favourite

Goose I'm telling ya , Milone is worth persevering with imo

I know you have had a lot to do with recruitment in the past , but this blokes just needs to get the confidence in himself that he can be anything if he works hard

I'd be prepared to stick with him in NSW Cup until he was at least 22

The Canberra game did it for me , and he went off injured in that game

It was all just a matter of taking the right option at the right time and he would of been tearing it up Renouf had horrible hands coming through

The scary thing was when he caught the ball he was unstoppable at junior level

No speed, footwork isn't exceptional and lacks overall flair to succeed as a top notch centre. Not particularly big either so he's not a noted tackle breaker either.

Im happy to keep Milone in the system on a tier 2 contract, he is a good influence to have in the joint, does all the little things right off the field, but I dont think he has enough to make it.

Yep totally agree on this. He's big, which meant he's been playing up a level for most of his career to date, but in the end he needs to lift his game to another level next season if his career is going to go anywhere in the near future.

Has talent and decent ball playing skills for a big guy, hopefully he can kick on…

have watched Milone & Funaki for many years , Funaki was what i call a man child bigger than everyone in an aged competition, against men he will find it tougher as he is too slow. Milone too slow and will struggle as he did in his only VB cup game.

You see so many polynesian kids kill it at 20's as they quite often are much stronger than the still physically developing white kids. But come first grade the gap disappears.

  Once again WRONG

Wests Tigers 2014 NYC Holden Cup captain Nathan Milone will make the step up to full-time training next year and says he’s ready to test himself against the big boys.

full-time extended NRL squad in 2015

Milone is the bloke to focus on from a Tigers pov

He has heaps of skill , just needs to learn when to pass and when to run

He would be at least 2-3 years away

I dont think he is any chance.

He has not progressed in the last 2 years and I think has not given anywhere near enough given his pedigree and opportunity.

Strong NYC player at best, who should have developed more.

Seve has potential and may develop into an NRL plyer if he works ahrd and continues to improve, Milone started at a similar point (maybe slightly behind) but did not improve at the rate you would like..
**Milone will not be offered a fulltime contract next year.**

Wow You really are a goose. Milone will be offered a fulltime contract next year.

fancy you dishing out insults.

Did he carve you up when you were at Norths as well

Game… set and Match...Irvine....AGAIN !

Never say never in RL, but if Malone is in the Top 25 next year, it is purely political!

1\. Cherrington is the best prospect and with Robbie starting to age, is coming through at the best time. A full year in NSW Cup will be the perfect apprenticeship.

2\. Seve would of played NRL this year if not for injury. He is one of the best balanced Centres I have seen and will carve it up for years as long as he doesn't get a hip injury :frowning:

3\. Funaki knows where to and when to run. Has a great offload and doesn't shy away of the hard work. All the assets to make it in the NRL! (Remember he has another year in NYC)

Happy to keep them all as you never really know?!
