Imperfection and the unknown are one of the many subtle joys in life.

To take those away is robbing the human experience.

there will always be imperfections and unknowns - just not as many. its called evolution peeps :sunglasses:

Its called interfering with the human condition.

Ageing in both physical appearance and mentally causes different reactions and allows people to reflect differently.

Early death changes the lives of all those affected and shpes them

Weaknesses in physicality allows the opportunity to search out other paths of greatness.

The homogonised, unitard trek like fantasy that is the modern transhumanism theory is just dalliance of those who are wholly unsatisfied with their lot in life IMHO

I'm annoyed at the fact I spent thirteen years at school and will have to work for fifty to sixty years, and these clowns want to double/triple/quadruple life spans? Assuming everything works out proportionally, if the human life span is tripled, you'd be expected to work for near on 150-200 years. I don't care if the ageing process is slowed down or not, you couldn't expect the body to perform at peak condition for that period. The body will be made of the same molecular structure and would be subject to the same stresses and would respond to those stresses in the same manner.

At least in the very initial stages of it you wouldn't have an ageing population and would enjoy a time of prosperity. Has anyone considered the physical & ethical ramifications though?

I'm not religious by any stretch and embrace scientific advances but any visitation in this field is narcissistic and playing with the very fabric of nature and evolution. Some would argue that our increasing intelligence and neverending curiosity is merely a byproduct of our evolution to this point so it's only natural we progress down this path, but even now evolving at our current rate we are breeding and consuming at a rate where in the future the planet will not be able to support due to exhaustion of natural resources, and until we find a way to find alternative/more sources which will require exhaustive amounts of resources to begin with. Eventually life cannot continue until we move on from Earth. And we want to increase this exponentially?

I think evolution is every bit about learning your limitations as well as overcoming them. A decline in population is a smarter and healthier step rather than extending the life span of it.

Realistically, we're not smart or wise enough to handle the ramifications of this, nor will we enjoy the same experience that is being human.

 it's not a fantasy smeg. i dont think you understand the possibilities. we keep improving technology and medicine for mankind's benefit so what's the difference?

 Mankinds benefit. Good one alien.

For the benefit of those who can afford it and of the conglomerates who make obscene profits from medicine maybe but the idea of altruistic human advancement in medicine died with the man who cured small pox and gave it away without even a patent on it.

I can also throw out a slightly luddite perspective in that it can be argued that the advancements in technology have been as much a hinderance as a benefit to humanity

Technology isn't going to slow down or move at the same speed as it is now. It's only going to move faster and it has to because of the way we live.

So you're saying that you haven't benefited from technology and medicine improving

Because having a cure for the flu or common cold merely preserves the original lifespan that humans are meant to endure in a normal environment. You're not literally extending the life span nor playing with the fibre of an entire species Alien. I have had two open heart surgeries that would have almost seen me off at the age of thirteen, but I will only live to the age that the human body will allow. There's a reason why we're limited to 100 years on this planet, give or take a decade, and that's because evolution dictates it so.

I think it's a good thing that we have an expiry date, otherwise class acts like Stalin, Hitler, Gaddafi, Mubarak, Hussein, Caesceau and Milosevic would still be roaming the Earth.

You comment that technology moves faster because of the way we live. That is due to the basic consumeristic principle of supply and demand, and that doesn't necessarily benefit mankind.

Not saying that at all alien. But the negatives of some advancements are great.

The poor literacy enforcement due to email and text speak, the drastic reduction in face to face or telephone conversations and the effect that has had on social skill sets etc.

Technology has its benefits but to say it is without its pitfalls is utterly brain dead

There are some negatives but I believe the positives far exceed the negatives.
