LIVE GAME Trial 2 vs. Dragons

Live Game Discussion
He’s a great centre. His problem is he wants to play 5/8 so he’s farked.
I feel like this got blown out of proportion. He was told he was being moved to 5/8, from memory. And for whatever reason (can't remember the exact details) was then being shifted to centre by Noddy.

Doueihi said he'd rather win his way back playing 5/8 in reserves.

I think this was less about not wanting to be a centre & more about trying to cement one role.

The fact that the coaches didn't seem to have any issue with him & still don't, suggests we might be getting PART of the story.

I'm betting if you say that his future at the club is at centre, and he's signed accordingly, he doesn't have an issue.

You could be right RR.
The ball’s squarely in his court. If he can get over all the hurdles I mentioned and he’s not expecting too much money, Richo and Benj may see value, but I wouldn’t bet on it. I can see him going before the end of the season - just can’t imagine where.
Maybe following Nofa to England would be his best chance.

Before WT extended his contract by 1 year to cover 2024 (a move they no doubt regret), Adam's agent was shopping him around hoping to get $900k a season. Couldn't get half that in the NRL now. England, maybe.

Even if he comes back from injury and plays at his best, he’d still only be worth 450-500k at best on the open market due to the high risk that comes from his past injuries.
If he does come back and play very well for the rest of this season, I’d say he’s worth a contract of roughly 400k-450k to us.
He’s not exactly an old man just yet and his size could be valuable to us if he can demonstrate he can play without fear and hasn’t lost too much speed.

100%. The fact it’s across the board says to me it’s coaching. We just lack any attacking instinct it’s like we have totally forgotten that part of the game which is strange given the high turnover of our roster over the last few years.
You'd think something would have to change with the turnover. I think you're right though, seems like we're a couple of seasons behind in structures and don't have anyone that can try anything different.

lol the wrist cutting over a trial is hilarious ! Instead of figuring out which chair you’re going to use to neck yourself , maybe some focus on the fact that we played so crap in a trial , with zero repercussions . And now we have 3 weeks to figure out what’s wrong .
I’m not even going to get out of first gear until round 4. It’s absolutely pointless .
Hoping this comment ages well...

Attack is so much more effective when you have players that can crack the advantage line', backed up by speed. We lack both compared to other squads and no one that has been recruited this season addresses that ongoing weakness.
I’d be showing the boys footage of when Pole went off against the Raiders last year. He was running noticeably harder than normal. When you lack ability the only antidote is effort.

Is this factual?

Wasn’t it made clear that Adam had sacked his agent and was doing his own negotiating?

Great point, we don't have any players that worry the opposition so when we're throwing the ball around all they do is follow the ball movement because they're not worried about anyone in our side.

I didn't get to watch the game live (fortunately) and have stayed away from here so that my view of the game wouldn't be tainted by group think. The performance was poor; Api and Benji were on the money about being out enthused; however, the coaching staff need to take just as hard a look in the mirror as the players.

It was not a simple as they ran and tackled harder than us. They had a game plan that pulled us apart; our "new" simplified system appears to be five hitups and get to the kick. The way Saints were going to play the game was predictable and us playing down the middle corridor played into their hands - we needed to play wider and run them off their feet. Instead, we dished up the same tripe set after set - no good having a great completion rate if you don't ask any questions of the defence.

The glaring deficiencies, apart from attitude:
  • Seyfath is not a 13 - he tries hard but simply doesn't have the ball playing skills required for the position.
  • Staines has not shown anything that warrants a start in first grade - outside of a better centre that can get him into gaps he could be OK but we don't have that luxury. Lobb, while also not setting the world on fire, at least provides a good kick target. This aspect of his game is probably worth exploiting as we have s a couple of reasonable kickers.
  • Neither Sezer or Sullivan took charge of the game management. I'm not sure what the game plan was going into the game - but I can bet it wasn't five hitups and a kick. Galvin, with next to no experience, played more direct and offered a couple of opportunities.
  • The number of ineffective tackles made; and this has a direct link to our poor attitude towards the game. Saints came with a point to prove; we looked like we turned up for an opposed training session.
There weren't many positives aside from Galvin showing that, although not ready developmentally, he has the skill set and attitude required to play first grade. The better aspects of our generally poor effort related to our very low error rate with the ball in hand and our short kicking game produced a number of repeat sets. Certainly nothing to crow about.

No need to panic yet, but based on our last performance we are rightly favourites for the spoon. I still think we are capable of climbing the ladder to about 12th; however, we very much need a change in attitude.

I'm going to the opener in Canberra; based on our last game I don't have high expectations.

Checking the stats something stood out Pole coming off the bench made (136 m) and in my opinion should be our no13 .
All of our first choice pack except AJ ( 19m) made good meters .Steph topped the meters (187m)over all players
I'm hoping trials are just trials but not hopeful come round 2 the pack should be
Steph,Api,Klemm,Ipaps,Bateman,Pole

Spot on…see you in Canberra

Did AJ really make on 19m the whole game?

We had the whole off season to figure out why we failed last year. The last 2 actually. I have an idea, but I’d hate to go out on a limb.

Like most people, I was disappointed by the trial performance, especially with the both attacking and defensive efforts. In attack there was nothing, no structure no depth, nothing, who is the attack coach ? Seyfarth is not a lock, and lacks genuine leg speed and drive, why is POLE not starting ?Sullivan is not an organising half, he plays off the cuff, why try and make him something different. The right centre position is a big issue, have not seen NADEN and he is a big body. Like most people Galvin performed well and young Willett looks to have a future, Staines was disappointing, but no good ball out his way.

Pole is the only realistic option we have at 13...
Bateman or Papali'i could do a job there,
But we have zero NRL back rowers outside them

(Please spare me any AJ Kepaoa Dellusion)
