LIVE GAME Trial 2: vs. Raiders

Live Game Discussion
But will Laurie keep Stains out of the 1 jumper is the question..I like Daine immensley as a player, but Stains can play 1 or 2/5 and has the speed and experience...I hope Daine has a blinder first up...its all up to the players to perform because I personally think that this year is the year we become a decent NRL side with a good culture, attitude and admin ...we cant be a basket case forever...
He did look alot better than Laurie today especially under the high ball but by the time he played alot of the raiders first grade team were already off

Yes I totally agree but he has experience and more NRL time than Daine,so in reality it will be who does better each game will get the position...

All in all a good performance. Still think line speed wasn't good enough and will put us under pressure. But second half our attack improved, though need to acknowledge the number of errors Canberra made too

Shouldn't you be celebrating with your teammates Dave?
Still find it a bit sad that because I support a player, when a lot lay the slipper to the head of him. That I must be him or a family member, rather than a supporter! We have gone through a lot in the last 11 years. With stifling coaches that play in a negative direction. It’s obvious to me that if your defence is poor in the middle and u don’t trust the player next to u. U will often come in to help in defence which often causes overlaps making wingers look bad, due to the overlap. A guy like Nofa a local junior ridiculed, who often takes the dirty hit ups always making over 100 meters a game and the clubs leading try scorer!! Look he’s not the greatest the defender, but it’s not all his fault.

You and others can rubbish Madge all you like,he had bugger all to work with because of the cap garbage he had...he had the smarts to recruit pro players such as Api and Papi but the haters cant wait to lick Sheenss arse because they think he is our savior...as far as the raiders go they will improve ,its a trial and ricky and madge will have them in a better position than what everyone thinks atm..Also dont think the Dolfins will be also rans, they will be better in 24 especially once Wayne gets them to gel...The other thing I will say is defense wins you the game, just as Madge had them learning to defend with the old 5 hit ups and a bomb which many teams use,he didnt get a chance to put his attack in play because he was sacked...Sheens has the advantage of Madges forsight...
Its always easy to kick a man when he is down,I give Madge much credit because I only played the game and copped heaps,he coaches an NRL team and held his head high by winning a premiership in both hemispheres, more than I could ever hope to do...weak keyboard warriors always bag people because they remain anomynous, myself on the other hand welcome an invitation face to face to discuss anything football related...Im no angel but I have God and his teachings on my side...we are all human beings given every chance to make life what we want it to be.,,
I dont want a life I have to live ...I want a life worth living...love to all enjoy 2023 season ..
Rubbish call, he had four years to improve the team. Yes Cleary left him with a bunch of crap players. But Cleary made us get to 9th with those crap players. Fadge just made us plummet down the table. Yelling at players, boring tactics, rubbish use of the bench, no game plan, not improving players, only recruiting good players when sheens was involved, making players worse, etc, etc. Sheens had to clean out all the garbage players he recruited. Yet u want to wax lyrical about how he went, please. As they say ‘look at the scoreboard’! Talk about looking through rose coloured glasses. But each to their own, I guess.

ipap/api were good decisions when we had cash
We had cash, 1 million offer to latrene was there, couldn’t land the fish. I can’t get over the calls if he recruited api/ice that’s why they came here. They came here for the money, api was under paid for years at Penrith, and para low balled ice. They didn’t come for him. Anybody with half a brain would No that he was living on borrowed time. Dropping two places down the ladder each year on the way to the spoon, let me tell you in the NRL your job is not safe!
Ice only wanted to leave once para lost Mahoney and offered him more cash, no other reason just excuses! Look at the lust of players leaving this season, mostly his recruits, then look at the players coming in.

I think that's almost spot on, Earl. Of course, it's all opinion but I agree with picking Staines ahead of Nofo. The only change I'd make would be to have Twal on the bench instead of James. James really bent the line when he was on but it's too early for him to be picked and I thought Twal was excellent in his stints. To be quite honest, some posters' comments really astound me. Calling Twal a plodder in the game is ridiculous or that Seyfarth was better, complete lunacy. Yet again Seyfarth was smashed on nearly every hit up whereas Twal made a number of strong charges. Really it's clear that fans see what they want to see and have their clear personal favourites. With the squad we have now, I hope Seyfarth never sees first grade this year.

With regards to the game, there were a lot of positive signs. Excellent goal line defence, some great ball movement and a number of strong individual performances. I was really pleased to see Blore, Tupou and Klemmer play so well. Actually there wasn't a bad player out there. But it was only a trial so I have guarded optimism.

My final comment- don't our young forwards look good? All of them looked like they could do something. Other than Seyfarth, every player in the pack bent the line, worked hard in defence and looked capable of offloading. The key is to bring on our youth slowly then we will reap the benefits!

Seyfarth played well yesterday. Twal did as well. It is called squad depth, an area where we have been lacking.

Enjoyed watching the boys yesterday.
A lot of positives, but still a lot to work on.
The Raiders we really bad ,probably one of the worst performances of pre season .
I don’t want to take away from the boys ,because those are the sort of performances you can build confidence off.
Klemmer was the leader of the fowards.
Doueihi was the leader of the backs.
Throw in Api and I can see us laying some pretty solid foundations for our young blokes to come into ✌️

If Brooks hits top gear we are a top 8 team. He has the players around him this year.

That is nothing new on this forum mate.

We played football yesterday and the players responded with a vote of confidence. The players in motion and smooth passing was a pleasure to watch.

We all needed to see the improvement in this game. But it is a trial. Reality is just around the corner, when the big guns come out. Enjoy the win it was great, and stay optimistic, but tough times ahead.

Only saw the highlights reel so didn’t see any dropped balls, missed tackles or stupid penalties but it sure looked good. Plenty of free running, speed and off loads with good hands. The young fellas having a go. Looking forward to seeing more in around 1.

It's a team sport. If a team is continually functioning poorly it's never the result of the performance of one person and ninety nine percent of fans will always find ways to defend some and lay the blame at others. You can take it personally and keep engaging in the arguement, or you can accept that no matter how much you defend someone others will counter it, much like your opinions on Maguire. We all see things differently - doesn't make us right in the eyes of others.
