LIVE GAME Trial 2: vs. Raiders

Live Game Discussion
I said earlier that the team played for each other and had that winning attitude about them...
This is the exact culture that has been missing for years,Sheens is coach but I reckon that play for each other attitude has been instilled by Farah and Marshall....
I watched us blow Manly off the park in a trial under Madge. Hope they’re not believing their own hype again.

No spoon this year but I still think this is a bottom 4 side if injuries hit and no side has a miracle run. The depth in the backline's key positions is pissweak.

thanks Ivan. madge wasn't as good as getting players off the books as Sheens, but he did get some to commit. sheens did well to get ice to honor the contract given we dumped madge. other thread mate they dont contribute too 3.2.1

Won’t happen naden, talau centres the nof, tupou/AJ the wing. But the old Sheens might use AJ on the bench for second row/utility! Did it today, always up to something!
Aaaaaa

the first thing that I noticed is how well Sheens has developed these players in just the one preseason. imagine what these boys look like with (hopefully) a full season and another preseason. credit to Moussa and his staff for getting the side in shape as well, haven't looked this fit in a long time.

Simpkin was our best yesterday for mine. picked his moments brilliantly, tackled everything that moved and was great to see him thread the needle for Matamua to score.

Doueihi has learnt to control his bombs and his long kicking game has gone to another dimension. the 40/20 was proof of that. also was far better in terms of going deeper into the line to create space for his outside men, ala for Blore who set up Staines.

Talau and Naden are different players, but both looked great in attack. Talau runs lines and breaks tackles at will with early ball. Naden will suck in two defenders and flick the ball out. clearly been working on their strengths for the last few months.

Twal's developed an offload. Blore can pass(!). Kepaoa has come along in leaps and bounds. Klemmer has become a link man. excited to see what he's managed to do for Brooks and Ofahengaue come Round 1.
Great post JR and I agree with what you have written. One of the great frustrations of the previous years is the individual skills of our players in many cases regressed, and few (if any) players improved. We've seen in one off-season what is achievable with a mindset of playing actual football.

I don't

I don't Wanna be a wet blanket but you're both going off a bit early.... Hope it all continues but let's see how we're fairing come round 10...hopefully on wards and upwards

Maguire certainly showed what he has to offer with the Raiders defence, while Tigers defense is much improved. All the passing and catching work, brilliant! Best off season ever.

At the session I was at, he trained at centre for the first team and fullback for the reserve team, so he's obviously been training all over the place.

Good to have versatility, he could become a bit of a Mr Fix It.
while Simpkin is short odds for the 14 jersey, it wouldn't surprise me if AJ gets the 17 jersey as the bench back rower if Bateman isn't ready for Round 1. we could do worse.

Well put, nice to see a big improvement on the first trial, and a few key players in good condition but we're still on 0 points.

The length of the field try nearly made me cry, feels like we haven't done that in ages, so I get the hype - but 1 step at a time.
