No Injuries..... :sign:

sounds like moors tore up which could pnly help his push for the potential last spot in the 17 but looks like they are playing him at prop so it could be interesting

■Wests Tigers 28 North Queensland 4
THE Wests Tigers last night kicked off their 2010 season with a convincing 28-4 win over North Queensland at Mackay in a match played in muddy conditions.
The Cowboys actually opened the scoring in the 39th minute through a try to Manase Manuokafoa. However the Tigers soon took control hitting back with three converted tries in the opening nine minutes of the second half.

Fullback Jake Mullaney opened their account following good lead-up work from prop Junior Moors, who scored himself in the 47th minute.

English recuit Mark Flanagan capitalised on creative work from hooker Chris Corby to score. And he scored again shortly after collecting a kick from halfback Blake Lazarus.

The Tigers' second-half scoring spree was completed in the 78th minute by Josh Davis.

Tigers prop Bryce Gibbs played strongly in the trying conditions.

Wests Tigers 28 (M Flanagan 2, J Mullaney, J Moors, J Davis tries; Mullaney 4 goals) North Queensland 4 (M Manuokafoa).

So happy for Blake….this kid has the true Tiger's spirit within him.
He has a fantastic footy brain, and would be a better half foil option to complement Benji.I think though ,he needs a fair bit of games in BRET to harden up his match fitness, but if bought through right, a great long term option.

At last, a year where it looks like the Wests Tigers have some great depth in most positions on the Park...Roll on 2010

Excellent news! No injuries, a solid hitout and a solid win in terrible conditions. Sounds like all players put their hand up with several pressing claims for the top 17\. I reckon Moors could sneak his way in and Flanagan will hopefully adapt to the game here quicker than some might expect.

I'm hoping this means i'll see Moors get a start somewhere in the Fdn. Cup on Sunday. I can't remember but we usually pick a squad of 20 for this game, don't we?.

Next week will be the first real hit out and I think we will see who is in Sheens sights for the first few rounds but by the sounds of it we are in for a good year across all grades with everyone putting their hands up

You and i both know Lazarus was ALWAYS going to be listed as the STAR PERFORMER even without being in the stands. We have watched this kid long enough to know he is a class above ANY level bar NRL 1st grade. With a few months in State Cup under his belt and more growing confidence, he will press for claims in the top side. This i have no doubts barring misfortune and based on his skills alone.
He came knocking on WT's door looking for a home who then threw him to the Wolves so to speak, and he decimated at that level and was fast tracked through the WT system mid-season, and then followed up by steering BRET to the finals, and also keen enough to have a stint in S.G.Ball in their finals appearance ALL in the one season. He took out the Rising Star Award at State Cup level that very same season.
Then NYC was introduced and he was re-positioned at fullback in hope of replacing Hodgson's boots. During the first few rounds, Lazarus was topping virtually EVERY tally from goal kicks, tries, try assists you name it and his name was up there, but the media would never mention this guy as they were far more focussed on players such as Matt Mundine who was nowhere near Lazarus on the leaderboards.
3 years ago he was IMO playing as well, if not better than Moltzen. Sheens had Lazarus pencilled in to play fullback BEFORE injury struck and Moltzen was next in line on a clear run to the top level. And Moltz has undoubtedly has state/national representative written all over him IMO. So this in itself says something.
This is the "class" i am talking about guys. Throw Moltzen, Ayshford or Lazarus a jersey in virtually any suitable position and these kids will adapt and rise to the occasion. Get these 3 kids all back on the same squad AGAIN amongst players such as Farah, Galloway and Marshall and you will have a feared dynasty on your hands.

Totally agree with CT's comments.

I love watching Blake play - he is a gun and a top kid as well! Hope he has a big year.

IMO Lazarus would best be suited at halfback in front of fullback. Is more damaging with his quick thinking and laying on points for his men. Plays very square which is something that would suit WT lateral attacking patterns when it needs to be straightened up just like how Prince used to. Even when at fullback, you can see he plays as a secondary halfback. His stint at fullback has only improved his game. Now more improved on defensive reads, one on one tackling and support play.
I have no doubts he would have been the instigator in laying on most of those points last night. Although his name does not appear on the score sheets as usual, he is the quiet achiever and a playmaker. Will have a rare attribute to ALSO become a game breaker with more confidence under his belt.

It may be a trial but he won't be Gallant in defeat

CRAIG BAXTER

February 12th, 2010

COWBOYS recruit Shannon Gallant is treating tonight's trial with Wests Tigers in Mackay as much more than a chance to blow away some pre-season cobwebs.

While both clubs have named well below full-strength teams for their first hit-outs of the year, the ex-Tigers fullback saw it as anything but a low-key occasion. Signed by the Cowboys as cover for injured star Matt Bowen, Gallant hoped to prove to himself at his new club as quickly as possible.

''It's definitely a big one for me, coming up against my old club,'' Gallant said on his way to a training session in Mackay yesterday.

''It's called a trial but I'm definitely not going to be taking it easy.

''I'll be going out to win and so will the rest of the team.

''We've trained pretty hard all off-season and we're ready.

''I'm definitely out to impress the coaching staff, sort of show it was a good decision getting me up here and hopefully push for a first-grade spot at the start of the year.''

With Bowen expected to be sidelined for up to the first eight rounds of the season after knee surgery last year, Gallant is widely regarded as the man most likely to fill the vacant No. 1 jersey.

But the 24-year-old, nicknamed 'Mighty Mouse' for his speed and small stature, was not taking that for granted.

''I'm not looking at it like that, I know I've got a job to do but there are a lot of guys here who have done the job in the past,'' Gallant said.

''I don't want to go around saying the position's mine, because it's not the case.''

A composite NRL-Toyota Cup Cowboys team features other newcomers in Will Tupou, Ryan Stig, Leeson Ah Mau, Isaak Ah Mau, David Uhi, Justin Hunt and Todd Seymour.

Gallant's 'inside' knowledge had him wary of an ultra-youthful Tigers outfit.

He nominated outside backs Rhys Pritchard and Josh Davis as among the players to watch.

''I played with a few of the boys who've come up from the under-20s and are getting their first gigs,'' Gallant said.

''And there are a few boys I played with in the (Wests) Magpies reserve grade, it's going to be good to come up against some familiar faces.

''I know what they can do and there's not a bad player in the team.''

sorry guys , meant to post this yesterday.
