Triple M rumour

He would be handy i reckon and cheap.

Not a starting 9 or halve but could provide value off the bench or if injuries are present.

Were going to be a pretty good team on paper the next year or two and average players might look good. Mortimer killed it in his first year or two at parramatta.

Can kick also, maybe not a 80%er, but probably better than what we have now. Handy player to have on your books

:roll

let's all talk ourselves into Daniel Mortimer. State cup legend!

I wish the club spent as much time securing TPAs as it did chasing reserve graders. We seem awfully strapped for a club with such a young, unproven roster.

X2
The thing is Liddle is most likely our future, but he could also very well be our present if he takes to first grade quicker than expected.
We need protection in that position if Ballin doesn't come good and to apoint a full time older hooker in the role would only discourage liddle.
Mortimer being a utility gives us the chance for him to start games in the 9 or off the bench depending on how liddle gets through pre-season. The thing I like about it is there will be no ego because his now a very good utility, so he could always provide a role.
Mortimer must have pretty strong and resilient characteristics, almost went through the same pathway as JT (our one) started off hot shit with Parra and then just started to fade in his previous role, with credit and faith shown to him by the roosters coaching staff (JT included I believe), they turned him into a very valuable utility.
Anyway there is not too many others around at the moment except I would say Kosjason (Cowboys).
The thing that concerns me is if he is heading to England for money, are we going to have to pay close to the amount to entice him to stay?

Look I don't mind Mortimer as a player I think he wouldn't be a bad signing tbh…. but I just can't see if these rumours are true that we are struggling to find the funds to re sign ET but then be linked to Mortimer and Rhino.

If Farah was to leave and we could re sign ET and have the funds to sign Mortimer on a 1-2 year deal then yeah I wouldn't mind.

I love Rhino but if he came back that would be a very silly decision!

Pound tanked after Brexit. Earning pounds not what it used to be.

Not the worst buy in the world, assuming Farah leaves the club. Very John Morris-like. Once it was realised he wasn't a halfback, his utility value was good. Played hooker, lock, wing

Mortimer is a below average substitute type player who plays no positions well. I don't like the signing even for NSW cup. We should look at Damien Cook (Souths), Craig Garvey (Dogs) fast hookers who can run off the bench and have some mongrel to help Liddle.

Mortimer is the Rankin of hooker/halves. Does everything at a very average level.

Lol mate, don't try and give Rankin Complements by comparing him to average..

It's funny how Tiger Torch was talking about Robbie to Newcastle and TT said the Tigers said they would throw in rankin as well for a Uate Swap.

Why not?
We bought a reserve grade hooker already ruled out for season last year.
That worked out well.

When did Ballin play reserve grade?

The simple answer is this year …with us.
He was released from his 2016/17 contract with the Eagles because he was not in Manly's first grade plans just after he signed a new contract.
He never got a chance to play reserves there because of injury.

Once here he conceded himself he would be playing reserves for us (courtesy of The Australian in May this year)...

'The man meant to be Robbie Farah's replacement has conceded he will have no problems playing reserve grade for the rest of the season if coach Jason Taylor desires, with Matt Ballin conceding the State of Origin veteran deserves the No.1 hooking job.'

Make of it what you wish.

We should chase Hugh Pratt from Manly. Not sure of his ability, but has a 1st grade name

Is that serious, Harvey?
Poor kid growing up with that name.

He'd fit in pretty well at our club at times with a name like that.

I remember his rookie year at the Eels and how he was lauded as the next big thing. I could never see it. As someone said before Daniel Mortimer = John Morris.

His signing would go to further proving the theory that JT doesn't see hooker as a high value role. Tackle, tackle, tackle and pick the ball up from the deck and pass it.

That's it.

Do not run, do not engage the markers, do not kick from dummy half etc

We should go after that young bloke at the Tigers Manaia Cherrington. Would come cheap for an opportunity and looks the goods.

Actually he didn't get injured until round 24 last season and had stayed in first grade after they had announced they wanted him gone (mid to late July), so he did have a chance to play reserves but as far as Toovey was concerned he was their number 1 hooker and he played first grade.

The extract from that article isn't a concession that he was going to play reserve grade here, it's just an expression that he was prepared to do that if that's where he was put.

As a 219 game veteran he's no more a reserve grade hooker (in the critical sense you used that term) than Farah is a reserve grade hooker - which is not at all.
