Tuqiri hit by fresh injury setback

LOTE Tuqiri's desire to finish his career on his terms has been hit with a fresh setback, after the Wests Tigers winger was forced to undergo a second round of surgery on an arm injury, **sidelining him for up to four months** of the NRL season.

Tuqiri, who broke his left arm in round 18 last year against the Bulldogs, had surgery on Tuesday to insert two plates, but has vowed to return later this season.

"I was really looking forward to helping the club have the success that everyone is after this year," Tuqiri said. "I have to accept the reality. I will work hard on my rehab and hope to make a contribution later in the year."
**Tuqiri, 33, is on a one-year deal with the Tigers.**

"We will do everything we can to support his rehabilitation and our main priority is to ensure that he fully recovers," Tigers coach Mick Potter said.

Wont matter anymore his cash will be used for a signing for 2014 season hopfully a prop. But hopfully we see him return and finish on a high.

It's terrible to see a great player like Tuqiri go out like this (yes, I know he's not quite gone yet), but he should have retired at the end of 2011.

easy to be wise in hind sight..

I hope he can come back and contribute at the end of the year, more for sentimental reasons than anything else

Shame to see him go out this way, can't see him working his way back into the side after 4 months, it'll take him a while just to get some decent match fitness.

Hopefully he can finish off his career with a premiership with WT at the tail end of the 2013 season

nah he was dynamite in 2011 easily one of our best, and we all had the same expectations for 2012 but with all the injuries he could never get into the same form of 2011\. probably shouldve retired at the end of last year but gotta admire his drive to get back

Unfortunately, Lote has spent substantial time out with injury almost every season with WT, and each time he comes back, confidence and match fitness are slow in coming. I believe he is on match to match payments as a precaution.

The WT injury curse strikes again….hmmm....but it gives Nofo a chance of playing FG this year....perhaps this is why Potter was talking Up Teddy for thw wing?

We have so many good options to replace him we could either go with

1\. Tedesco
2\. Koroibete
3\. Lawrence
4\. Brien
5\. Nofoaluama

Well if someone had to be injured its probably better being Lote - been a while since he was an integral member of the team…

Classic case of one season too many, even without injuries he should of retired. The game had passed him, he had nothing to prove he'd done it all in both codes. No disrespect but its the best news I've heard this pre season lote had me pulling my hair out last year, I'm all about what's best for the wt and IMO that's not having lote on the wing this season. Just being honest

oh god another year of Utai under the high ball and letting the ball bounce anywhere!! please lets get a young winger in!

poor Lote gonna need a concrete arm to ever play again!

He played 9 games in 2011.

If anything this "setback" will clear up the headaches we have positioning deserving players into our starting lineup.

I'm all for Nofoaluma getting a crack, or even giving Mr T time on the wing.

Its a sad way to bow out for Tuqiri, but he surely, SURELY he must see the writing on the wall and bow out elegantly, and with dignity.

Got to agree, as good as Utai can be bringing the ball back up he is a liability on the wing, can't contest a high ball. We need to put someone in that can and has speed to match.

All the best to Lote on a successful recovery, if all goes well and he makes it back, it could be good timing as the way injuries run he may be needed to replace an injured colleague let alone get his career going again.
