Twal

Why is it that when there's a thread about a player, most people assume that you're bagging them?

People seem so quick to jump on the defensive

Lol. Could it be the 500 other negative threads about players? Not having a crack at you, but the terms "one dimensional, very stock standard, robotic" are also very rarely considered compliments.

The trouble is people are seeing freaks like Haas and Fifita and thinking that’s what all front rowers should be able to do. Twal is great for us, yes we need a massive framed athlete that is super quick and tuff as teak, but we also need players like Twal

@TIGER That’s an insult IMO ! he does what is asked with no fuss ..plays ever week . He has stepped up through out the season , his form might of dropped but he has done his job all season with not much help from the more fancied types ! First picked ever week

We have a pretty good prop rotation for now, Mikaele and Aloiai as impact props, Twal and Eiso the work horses. We could upgrade Clark to someone a bit more powerful and then we'd be looking good.

As a 6th/7th choice prop he's ok though.

Should we chuck a million at Fifita and hope he comes here in 2021?

People would have said Twal, a debutant, 2 penrith rejects and a second rower was by far the worst middle in the comp at the start of the year. Maybe they still would on paper. It says something about Maguire's ability to work with what he has.

Twal is a workhorse as others are mentioned.

He's never going to be a top shelf prop IMO however he is dependable as a Tolman/Gallen type forward.

As long as he keeps doing his job and is not overpaid, I don't see the issue.

Twal is being more heavily marked than when he started because he has been noticed by the other teams. If you can get 4 in a tackle you can stop any prop.

Twal is awesome imo. He has fallen off at the backend a little but he has never had to play the minutes or start before so he is still developing into that role tbh. He tackles well runs hard not much more you could ask for really.

you cant have 4 of aloiai/mikaele in your prop rotation. a quality workhorse like twal is a huge asset. i agree he's been a bit down lately but thats probably normal to have a litle lull after 2 years in the top grade. he'll be back to his best next year.

You can't underestimate his workload this year, and our front row stock have certainly taken a hit, so fatigue factor definitely comes into it and perhaps that's why he's coming off the bench of late. An impact prop or two is definitely required to help our forward pack out because we do need that balance of impact and aggression vs the workmanlike hard yards that need to be done.

Talk about hard to please.

His defence is near flawless and he's made more metres and metres per game than any other front rower at the club.

Data taken from Fox Sports:
Twal - 2117 metres at 96 per game
Mikaele - 1712 metres at 81 per game
Eisenhuth - 1586 metres at 83 per game
Aloiai - 1517 metres at 89 per game
Matulino - 976 metres at 75 per game
Clark - 409 metres at 58 per game
Packer - 373 metres at 62 per game

No we should not. If Tedesco is ballpark $1M, Fifita is not.

Clubs need to be very careful over the next few seasons, as I believe the salary cap is only guaranteed until 2022? The cap after that will be dependent on the next TV deal.

The Warriors are supposedly going to offer him around a million a year. If he's the next Taumololo then locking him in and paying him accordingly is fine. He'll be on minimum 700k. We'll have to pay significantly more than what the Broncos or Roosters would offer so yeah, about a million. Compares to the money we gave packer and reynolds he's a much better bet, but yes it's still overpaying.
