We're paying Mbye to play at saints so probably not any better off financially either.

He’s significantly better, I don’t even think it’s close. Mbye would probably be a better 1, I’d take peachey at centre, 5/8, lock or hooker

Meh, don't see anything in him.

Im in another camp. I have never seen the hype around him, until this year. This year in every Titans game I watched he looked good, very dangerous.

I've never been a fan of Peachey but this year he was pretty good
Perfect 14 for us

If that’s the role he is signed to carry out. Compare Peachey at $400k to Mbyebat $900k. I know which way I’d go.

?

We are still going to be paying 400+ for Mbye next year mate - that is still 800+ for Peachy to fill the same spot.

That’s true but hoping his attitude and enthusiasm will be better so hopefully a net improvement for the same money?

Absolutely NO comparison between Peachey and Mbye.

Mbye played FB and 9 at times, ie running spots, and still only averaged 50 meters. Peachey ran for almost 100.

Peachey can be hot or cold...but he always has a crack and is bloody competitive. MUCH better runner, kicker, defender, and all effort areas...

He will be an excellent signing.

Cover 6 whilst AD is out.
Cover center whenever needed.
Perfect 13 for the modern game.
Gets repeat sets with his kicks.
Perfect 14 also for the modern game.

Major upgrade.

If all you say is true, ***why are no other clubs interested***? Surely he would of been snapped up long ago. I think the lack of genuine interest from 15 other clubs speaks louder than whatever any of us can say here. At 200K worth the risk , even to play in reserves. 400k takes money away from securing a young & up & coming WT player that the smarter recruiters( eg Melbourne or Roosters ) will recognize the potential & snavel , after The WT have done all the work in developing. I understand most,if not all contributors here want the same thing, that is a successful WT club. But Peachy is not the answer. Could end up being part of the ongoing problem.

Because they have better rosters and having Peachey doesnt make their roster stronger. We have a weak roster and Peachey makes it stronger and is available and affordable

https://www.msn.com/en-au/sport/more-sports/breaking-peachey-finds-new-home-for-2022/ar-AAP6K28?ocid=msedgntp

Tyrone Peachey is on the move to Wests Tigers next season.

After three seasons with the Gold Coast Titans, Peachey is poised to return to Sydney after agreeing to terms on a two-year-deal with the Tigers.

The Roar understands the deal is worth around $800,000 with an official announcement imminent.

One of the most versatile players in the game, Peachey has been identified by the Tigers as a ball playing lock.

I knew they were taking the mickey with this article when they mentioned ball playing lock. Peachey doesn't have a passing game.

Question is - is he going to bring his own ball with him. We need ours for the other 16 players.

Talent wise they are probably similar, but Peachey probably has a bit more 'x factor', and definitely more ticker, so I think it is an upgrade. Mbye looked like he was actively avoiding making tackles towards the end.

On the other hand Peachey could be seen as a replacement for Walters (as Hastings might be seen as the Mbye replacement). In which case it is of course a massive upgrade.

Except Mbye was being publicly shopped around and knew the club didn’t want him so peach is still the better option. Plus it’s only 1 year will pay both salaries and it’s no real hindrance to our season

IMO 400k is a little overs but I don’t get the “we could have got him for 250 or 200 because no other NRL team wanted him”. If he can get that in ESL or rugby then that’s his value.

We need first graders. There’s not much out there. There’s cap space and roster spots. It’s reportedly a short term deal so I’m all for it ??

I absolutely agree with you. I don't get all the angst about whether we might have paid $100k too much for Peachey. The forum has been saying for ages now that we can't attract top players, so what's the opportunity cost here? Are we going to miss out on a great recruitment opportunity because we've overpaid $100k for Peachey? (If we did).
I reckon he'll be a reasonable fit for us. Probably paying overs but not enough to cause dissent amongst the troops. and not enough to cause us salary cap problems.

Peachey isn't a top player ...definitely not ranked in the Top 50 players

Can you list 1”49 please

Yeah ...none have a WT's behind their name

Can he play fullback?

I'm sure he can every position except prop forward.

I think he actually did play a few games at fullback when he was at Panthers. He wasn’t the worlds best fullback but was fairly solid from my recollection.

I like this signing. Having a third prop/middle forward as a lock is outdated. Peachy offers creativity and mobility which our pack has been missing for a few seasons now and he is experienced and has been solid the past two years. I think we paid overs for him but it’s only a two year deal so even if he plays poorly his signing doesn’t damage our cap too badly.

You’re right but only for the first year. Once Mbye’s money drops away after 2022 Peachey is back to normal

I’m nervous about this sentiment. There are a handful of clubs that are making a small lock work. The clubs that have a small lock have the luxury of a dominant pack. The two most successful teams have Finucane/NAS at lock and the likes of Yeo.

Our pack gets dominated most games (ultimately) , I’m not sure one less big body will help us.

The only time Mbye looked actually beneficial for the team in attack especially was in the limited minutes he had as a ball playing lock. I think this team has needed one of those Connor Watson type ball players at lock for ages as opposed to Twal at lock (who is and always will be a prop)

Have to agree to disagree.I think I understand what you are trying to say, but why should we have to buy the players no one else wants? The Storm & Roosters have those stronger rosters because they built them, they have built that culture , like we once had with our maiden premiership with a team built around our local juniors. That culture then attracts the good players to the club that they lack(as shown by them poaching Tedesco, Addo carr Pappy etc) Its not that we dont have the talented players, we spend way to much time looking outward to fix the problems.
As shown in the past you cant buy that culture & whether a player is dear or cheap, if they dont have the Tiger in their heart nothing will change. It has to come from within the club. Whether he adds to the club only time will tell but for long term success we need to develop from the club. I think Tim Sheens is will be instrumental in this & I believe there are better times ahead.

I can see why you’re nervous about having a smaller body in the pack but one of Yeo’s strengths is his passing game, playing the link between both sides of the field. Finucane is a bigger body but the storm often shift Smith into the lock role when Grant comes on. He’s smaller but brings a lot more energy.

I think most of the top teams like Souths, Roosters and Panthers have a lock with some mobility and skill. In saying that I think we’re short an enforcer in the pack and would love to have an aggressive edge back rower that leads line speed and puts pressure on opposition halves.

Yeah I wouldn't be playing him at 13 unless injuries strike. To me he's a better 14 than Mbye. As far as 13 goes, I'd be running a combination of Seyfarth and Simpkins in the middle of the field.

Simpkins needs a really big offseason

If we get TP he should be an ok buy
We missed out on TPJ but hopefully TP can spark something in this side in 2022 & hopefully this is the tip of the signings iceberg with a bit of cash leftover to spend

I kind of agree with you and add J Turbo to that list, but they are all still big bodies. IMO the only smaller locks are Roosters and Souffs but they are in fantastic dominant packs.

I don't think that will be a problem for him. I just hope the club trains smarter - it was clear our game plans this year were garbage - we need better structure in attack and defence, then we'll see some of these younger players really start to develop.
