I doubt he'd be told this the night before his game… Though the thought entered my mind watching Cleary in the presser asked about Marshall

I feel the same way. Tui next cab off the rank.

But then i look at Nofoaluma and think what did he do to lock down his spot.

I could easily play Tui and Gamble and sharpen up nofo again.
 
Tui was promised the #1 role and has played there all Pre-Season. Won't change now.

I like the the look of Gamble, I am going out to Campbelltown to-day to have a look. If Benji is out i think i would put Tui @6, McIllwrick @ hooker & no other hooker on the bench with Gamble to come off the bench.

He’s picked Benji Marshall’s brain on both sides of the New South Wales border – and now Western Suburbs Magpies five-eighth Tyson Gamble wants to fill his jersey.Learning Marshall’s craft in their time shared at the Redcliffe Dolphins last season, Gamble looks a chance to figure in the Wests Tigers No.6 in Round 4 of the NRL – a jersey made famous by the now-injured veteran.

Marshall himself urging the Wests Tigers to take a punt on the rising star.

“I played with him at Redcliffe in 2017, he’s a quality runner of the ball,” Marshall says of Gamble.

“He definitely is [in line for an NRL debut], he’s done everything right throughout the opening rounds of the competition.

“There’s not much more he could have done.”

Like Marshall in his youth, there’s an air of confidence that surrounds the 21-year-old five-eighth.

Instrumental in the Magpies’ early successes in 2018 – scoring a try in Round 1, and playing a leading role in the side’s back-to-back wins to start the year – Gamble is ready to make the rise in grade.

“I don’t think I could have asked for a better start to the year, personally… Maybe a few more tries,” Gamble tells NSWRL.com.au, with a grin on his face.

“I’ll do my best, if Ivan [Cleary] goes down that path and ends up picking me, I’ll definitely be giving it my all, putting my best foot forward.

“I'll be looking forward to it, if it happens.”

Marshall's injury leaves the door ajar for Gamble to earn an NRL debut in the Tigers’ Easter Monday clash with the Parramatta Eels at ANZ Stadium – pending the fitness of fellow 2018 recruit, Josh Reynolds.
Marshall and Reynolds had spent the months leading into the 2018 season grooming and guiding the young half, fine-tuning Gamble’s game in readiness for a first grade call up.

There’s a wealth of knowledge in the Tigers’ halves stocks.

“Benji [Marshall], Brooksy (Luke Brooks) and Grubby (Josh Reynolds) in the first-grade squad, they’re always helping me out, I’m always picking their brains. To have those blokes around, it helps my game out,” Gamble says.

“That’s big for me, I need to learn that better still – how to control the game, how to manage tight situations and get the team home to a win.”

Just as they have since his arrival from Redcliffe, Marshall and Reynolds again kept a keen eye on Gamble and his efforts at the weekend, in the Magpies’ Round 3 clash with Wyong.

Perched in the grandstands at Campbelltown Stadium, the representative duo – alongside the entire Wests Tigers NRL squad ­– offered their support to the Intrust Super Premiership side.

It’s a sign of just how far the Wests Tigers have come under coach Ivan Cleary, throughout his short tenure at the club.

“It’s awesome, it brings us together as a club. Seeing the NRL team down here to watch the [Intrust Super Premiership NSW] boys, it makes us tighter as a group,” Gamble says.

“We’re all here in this together.”
 
I hope he does play against Parra. He doesn't need to be perfect and I am expecting him to be a little rough around the edges but, we need that x-factor in attack. Like Benji when he debuted.

He won't control the team and he won't win us the game but, he will spark some attacking opportunities for us. And that is something we desperately need.

In this game we need someone with a bit more experience - not a rookie. Especially not to play with Brooks at this stage.

If Reynolds, Tui and Benji are out the options are Gamble or Godinet? Maybe Drinkwater not sure if he is top 30..

I think I would rather take a Gamble on him :blush:
 
Seen a couple of games in ISC with him at 6.Certainly creative and with potential,and Id risk him with another experienced half like Benji or Reynolds,but with Brooks….VERY high risk
 
Well, I guess we have to be happy with what IC chooses.
This kid seems the real deal, and will be a great asset to our team.
This forum is full of posts about how we lack speed and creativity. Mentioning every second footballer as the "answer" to our problems if we can sign him.
We have a kid here that does lack first grade experience, but who is lethal in attack compared to our spine . . . and all we get is negativity. Benji himself endorses Gamble completely, yet some muppet here saw him shirt grab, and so he is branded a liability.
If Benji is out, I'd love to see him get some decent game time at 6.
We should be excited that we have the potential answer on our books, coz if we don't do the right thing by him . . . talented halves are always in big demand and we will surely lose him to a club that sees potential.

Great post!

People should be genuinely excited about this guy yet the forum is split.

We might be on the right track now with culture and coach but this fan base has been through hell and back over the last however many years. Obviously some hangovers remain.
 
I understand peoples concerns over pairing this rookie with Brooks.

All i can say is Gamble's maturity is something else. He is no Mitch Moses or Luke Brooks.

He probably has less natural talent than those boys but his mentality is at a level that they still struggle with.
