Under 20s State of Origin

Not sure of the rules and eligibility for this, but surely we will have a few guys in line for a callup?

Anyone know if its only players who are playing in the NYC or is it anyone Under 20???

Surely Miller would be a shot, as well as Nofoaluma the way he's been playing..

Not sure who out of our boys would be eligible for QLD either..

Thoughts??

Kyle Lovett played in NSW U18s and continues to impress in the NYC so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a spot.

Anyone who has come through Keebra Park System would be eligable for Queensland…

I reckon Miller; Santi & Nofoaluma would go real close!

There is an NYC State of Origin now?

I thought it was 16's 18's & Residents for State/Qld Cup

RUGBY league's push to maintain its standing as the No.1 football code in western Sydney is set to receive a boost with the decision to play the first under-20s State of Origin match at Penrith.

As derbies between the Panthers and Eels go head-to-head with the AFL's Swans-Giants clash, the ARL Commission will today announce the NSW and Queensland under-20s teams will play for the Darren Lockyer Shield at Centrebet Stadium.

The match will be played on Saturday, April 21 during the NRL-free weekend featuring the Australia-New Zealand Test in Auckland and City-Country at Mudgee. All NSW and Queensland players eligible to play in the National Youth Competition who have not played senior representative football will be considered for selection.

Among those likely to feature for the Dean Pay-coached Blues are Newcastle back-rower Alex McKinnon, Sydney Roosters forward Boyd Cordner, **Wests Tigers prop Matt Groat**, Canberra winger Jack Wighton, Parramatta winger Cheyse Blair, Penrith five-eighth Harry Siejka, South Sydney fullback James Roberts and Dragons centre Nathan Green.

The match would be shown live on Foxtel and Toyota had paid for naming rights - although the teams would play for a shield in Lockyer's honour.

I like the idea for another reason , it helps players declare their allegiances to either Qld or the other mob of misfits early on

Can't have NSW tampering with player poaching this way as in the past :unamused:

What sucks about the eligibility rules is that if any Kiwi boys who qualify for QLD/NSW selection but could also qualify for the Junior Kiwis, have to make a choice - State of Origin or the Junior Kiwis!!
Which is complete BS because the Kiwis is a national representative side!! That's like telling the Aussie boys to pick between State of Origin or the Junior Kangaroos!!
Talk about double standards!!!

Well isn't that an issue for the NZRL to fix Nothing is stopping them from running an SOO series between the North and South Islands for both NRL and NYC players

I suppose the only issue could be the clubs not releasing players but I'm sure the players would be able convince the clubs and the NRL of the positives this could promote

How does that suck?
You choose to play SOO , which means you want to play for Australia , or choose to play for New Zealand - simple.
The only double standard is the Kiwis want the best of both worlds -as far as I 'm concerned they can look after themselves .

Congratulations to Miller and Groat!

As I understand it, Ashton and Tariq are NSW players under the rules but Korbin is a QLDer as he moved up north before he hit the eligibility age. A little bit weird but I guess rules are rules.

Yes they should make broader guidelines for places in representative sides, eg benji Marshall playing origin and for kiwis

Most of the strongest players from this age group have gone all the way through for NSW.

A few omissions that surprised me Jack Wighton and James Roberts seemed like certainties to me.

Evander Cummings shocked me as a selection (altho he is clearly talented)

NSW look stronger on paper, as we know, tho games are not won and lost on paper

Very surprised Wighton missed out, could have played anywhere in the backline. Have not seen Roberts this year still injured I think.

Bigger surprise Cummings. St. George have just signed Beale to play fullback after missing out on Moltzen and Duggan obviously they don't see Cummings stepping up to NRL level anytime soon.

Can't help but feel sorry for David Nofoaluma. He has been on fire for the Tigers NYC side this season and I'm surprised he was named on one of the wings. I also would have thought Kyle Lovett would be in the mix for a spot on the bench.
