i wonder if the australian kangaroos will go over there and play them again

I doubt Aust will be going back in the near future but teams like the USA need to play a lot more matches. However they need to be at their level - I know it was reasonably close last time but realistically they're going to get smashed by the Kangaroos, Kiwis etc. Playing Canada I think is the flipside of the coin - I can't imagine Canada having a great team.
What would be good is for NRL or ESL teams to play a trial game against the national team or for the Tomahawks make a tour.

Of course these things always come down to money… Personally I'd love to see USA playing say Woy Woy!

I reckon the Tomahawks should have a tour of Australia during our trials. I wouldn't mind watching Wests Tigers take on the USA Tomahawks as one of our trial matches. I hope the game gets bigger over there.

I really think there is a niche for the game over there. Obviously it's never going to be as big as one of the big 4 but it certainly has potential to grow. Biggest problem is that yawnion have stunk up the name rugby so much. They really need to avoid the R word in promoting the game.

Hold on …while St George are trialing against the Storm. Parra and Souff's ...Wests Tigers are gunna go head to head with the Tomahawks after we beat Huddersfield in the WCC..

visionary Alien.. :sunglasses:

Yeah why not? And then the week after we can play Eastern Suburbs in the Foundation Cup.

What are the big 4 in the US? Baseball, Basketball, NFL and Ice Hockey?

they just call it hockey over there. our normal hockey is called field hockey over there

Correct. Or more precisely the major competitions for those sports. In my experience over there they seemed to rank:

NFL (a runaway 1st)
MLB
NBA
NHL (a distant 4th)

At least based on crowds and media when I've been there

I knew that but they're stupid.

They call both Rugby Union and Rugby League - Rugby

Victorians do that too!

But yeah mention Rugby League and they (Americans) just think union which they don't like so much. The hard part is getting them in - once they see the game they seem to like it.

For the end of season tours to non RL places like Hawaii, Bali, Phuket and the like how about some of our lower grade teams bite the bullet and go to the USA and play the regional teams and then cap it off with a game against the Tomahawks.
It's one thing for the Tomahawks to beat Canada but the Canucks don't have a regular comp like the Yanks, exposure to greater competition will improve the game, the NANRL do play in some desirable locations, combine sport and fun and everyone gets to prosper!.

yeah alot of the players in the canadian side play rugby union too. both countries need assistance

I been chatting to David Niu on facebook. He told me tonight that the boys are very keen to do a tour of Aus.

Well I hope that happens although David Niu does tend to aim high and under deliver. It would be very beneficial to them to do it though. Forget playing Aust or NZ just work there way through playing some decent CRL or Bundy Cup teams and go from there. There seems to be this mentality sometimes that you have to play internationals - really its about improvement and skill development so finding the right level of opponent is vital.

As I suggested before, if the USA were playing near by I would go and watch!

hahaha Niu is going for the dragons on sat. i dont think he liked it when i showed him the puff the magic dragon video lol
