has anyone heard about this and if so what are your opinions of it?

some info about it here:

Yeah I've been following it for some time. I have a lot of respect for what Nui did to get things started over there but he's as bad as a Middle East dictator at times when it comes to an opposing view. Easily the most sucessful club over there has been the Jacksonville Axeman (I mean in terms of putting together a strong club with good financials and community interaction) and they were largely being ignored by Nui when it came to the future. Nui seemed all talk and pipe dreams whereas Spinner Howland appears to have a plan to grow the game at a sustainable rate.
Not letting USARL players play for the test team is petty and the IRL needs to seriously consider who is better placed to administer the game in the US.

I think I agree with you there. David Niu has put alot of time and energy into making the game bigger over there but I don't agree with not letting USARL players play for the USA Tomahawks.

I haven't followed it at all. When it became evident there was never going to be another Liberty Bell game, Rugby League became a lost cause to follow in the USA.

I think a split in the US Rugby League sides is ridiculous, there's barely enough of them around to even warrant splitting regardless of the reasoning behind it.

No it doesn't. It was a big deal in Aus & Northern England.

Hardly anyone in the US knows of Rugby League & those that do call both Union & League, Rugby - leaving you wondering if they even know the difference.

The point I was making was we had 2 of everything Qld , NSW Oz NZ sides and you could not play for both

While has been instrumental in growing the game there, he almost certainly believes he owns US League. He needs to move on.

It's easy to say that but you need to put yourself in the shoes of people like Spinner Howland. Some of these guys work their butts off to build up their clubs and create interest in league but have virtually zero say in how things are run and the future direction.

The final straw as I understand it was Nui selling the rights to the AMNRL to a company and then becoming an employee of the same. A group tried to get some change but Nui wasn't interest. Given the choice of his way or the highway they decided to do it themselves.

Personally I think this will be a step forward so long as the IRL makes the right call. The USARL seems to have a better base and plan.

The AMNRL will be relegated to a regional tournament in the New York area.

USARL seems the more stable of the leagues. Nui still carrying on like a pork chop. AMNRL has 6 clubs but one of them forfeited first up (Delaware Vipers). USARL has 8 teams I think. One got beaten by a century today but hey at least they showed up and its their opening season. Jacksonville Axeman seem to be a level above the other teams.

Off the field (and this is my take on the situation) the USARL have it all over the AMNRL. They are more open, sensible, committed to the game growing, and democratic. AMNRL act paranoid and are more interested in shooting down the USARL than developing their own league.

Best thing I've seen is the Axeman setting up a regional league, basically a feeder league for the main Axeman team. Creating some levels of competition is essential. As someone said its one of the few comps where a bloke off the street playing his first ever league game can find themselves marking Daniel Wagon.

AMNRL is still the recognised body for international league but if the IRL are serious, the USARL are the horse to bet on.

Fantastic.

When it is administered properly, given a decade or two to develop it would be a fantastic game for the US.

It's right up their alley. Big players, sped up free flowing play, brutal hits.

If they established Rugby League into the US, I would be so happy. I just moved there and I'm big on any sports here as much as Rugby League.
