Do we think he is worth it? Early days I know but seem a bit presumptuous given he was playing park football last year.

“I’ve got a lot to prove but hopefully I can go out there and get a two year deal after this year.”

Well even in the quote Utai recognises he has a lot to prove and then says "hopefully" he can get another 2 years. It's not a demand or an expectation - the bloke's entitled to have a goal.

Is he worth it? Too early to tell. I'd prefer to him be a year-by-year contract if he sticks around.

Oh and welcome to the forum!!

I must admit I thought he was one of our best on Saturday night. Took two or three tacklers every time he touched th ball and he made really good yards. I thought that was impressive considering he hasn't been with us for long.

I like Matt Utai now a little,

I hear Cronulla and Parra have some spare $$$$ under the cap for 2012….

I wouldn't be offering the cash just yet. Both Brown and Daniela are off contract and will definitely be looking to secure new deals, whether it be with the Tigers or elsewhere, competition should be fierce this year.

The club should wait, Utai has been going OK let him prove he is a longer term prospect first before extending his contract.

Not interested.
There is the door –->
Go make some retirement $$ in the UK

Lets see how he goes against a good backline both in attack and especially defense. I doubt he will be in 1st grade in a months time. I maybe a bit hard and he did go okay against the warriors but really their are better choices within our ranks

You have got to give it to him for effort but we already have better options.
He was inches from the ball and twice couldnt pick it up before the Warriors second try.
He tried extra hard to make up for it though.
Maybe he likes playing in the black and gold of his junior playing strip (Berala Bears)

Gotta give it to him though for making over a 100m, considering where he has come from these are positive signs. At the very least he should be congratulated on his effort for getting fit for 1st grade after signing so late.

Beau Ryan can only dream about the go forward Utai creates.

I don't mind him at the moment at all - made a meal of that kick on Saturday night, but I can forgive that.

I think the off the ball pace and timing of the game is troubling him at the moment and this should come within a month or so. But still away to go before a 2 year deal especially with the 2 young Figians in the lower grades .

That was unfortunate but the ball took a lot of weird bounces. It was a bit of a fluke try - I don't think you could blame him too much for it.

If he happens to kick on from where he has been playing then i'd consider giving him a contract… he's great with coming off our line, gives us great go forward and is a real handful to pull down.

Yep,great go forward on Sat nite which showed up several of our boys who are supposed to be doing this job.But….
Utai's a winger,& on the end of Tigers backline we need a finisher who can convert the numerous opportunities created by Benji & co,& also someone who can be relied upon in defence & under the high /bouncing ball.Thats not Utai.
If we cant grow our own(& sometimes that happens when prospects dont kick on),try developing someone with genuine pace like Daniella,or if we need to, sign someone like a Blake Ferguson (who unfortunately went to Raiders),or even retrieve Tagive back from Dragons State Cup .
But Utais not OUR man long term. He's not a great fit for this team

Never agreed with a post more.
Utai will do for the time being but I think he's a liability and will get called out on it soon enough.
He'll do for the time being but he's not impressive @ all.

Tagive and Koribete are waiting in the wings. Maybe a 1 year extension till those guys are ready? the last thing we want is a player of Utai's caliber forcing the young guns to look elsewhere.

Hasn't really been targeted under high ball yet if he proves himself under high ball and defensesively I can't see any issue UNLESS it costs us a much younger player in same position
