Utilizing the bench

I don't know if it is just me, but I don't think Potter is utilizing his bench players the best. BMM seems to be getting very little game time, Anasta might as well not been playing. I understand that some coaches may make their starting 13 play long minutes to keep fresh legs for the second half, however it seem we change the first prop or two, them we get lost. BMM should come on around 20 - 30 minute mark, just when the big forwards are starting to fatigue. He is a impact player and by playing your bench well, you can change the game. Look at Watmough in SOO 3, he changed the tempo and got NSW back in to the game with his enthusiasm. Maybe Potter should look at this.

Curious to see what people think???? :sign:

There has been a couple of times this year I thought his bench rotation was average. The boys looked completely buggered at stages this evening.

Totally agree, we seem to loose the momenteum and also miss the impact. The fresh legs at time don't make any difference which is a shame cause thats what they are suupposed to do. Just look a Fafita when he come on, thats what we need. Does anyone know why BMM is not getting good game time? BMM at times looks NSW cup material, not 1st grade. Had high hopes for too. Looks like we should have sent BMM with Gibbs, and kept Fafita. Hindsight is a beautiful thing.

Hahaha u guys are jokin! BMM is lazy and has average hands and doesn't deserve more minutes than he is playing. You guys talk about wotmough and fifita making impacts, it's got nothing to do with when or how potter uses his bench, it's because I the "quality" of player we bring in!
As props, woods and Blair are by far better than any other available props we have. When they go off we bring on jack Buchanan haha, new bring in watmough and fifita! No comparison really! Tigers don't have any good impact players off the bench! Nothing to do with potter using his bench wrong

Couldn't agree more. I'm happy to be proven wrong, but I don't rate BMM to be honest. I've seen him fire up once when he got pushed over after a bit of niggle, against Melbourne I think. His next tackle he absolutely pole axed a player on his own line. It's the first and only time I thought he could be going in hard. It lasted one tackle. Several coaches. Not much game time. There is only one common denominator…..

Its not a matter of ''deserving'' more minutes….its using ALL your players to the maximum time and ability. I too have scratched my head at the i'change at times...we seem to do ourselves no favours sometimes

He could probably use it a bit more effecitively, but as a rookie coach it is a learning curve. He's getting better. The main problem is, as others have said, the quality of players. We don't have a fifita to bring on 30min on. Next year with galloway recovered, taupau and buchanan/sue getting even better we should be a lot better in that department.

I feel sorry for Buchanan, as i think he has done very well this year, he was bought with an Eye to the future & we all thought he would probably play a few First Grade games but he has played all of them. Watching him last night i think the kid is playing on tired legs but he still puts in, I think this bloke is going to be a very good player in the future. As for the way we rotate our Bench players its got me beat, Iwas @ the game & correct me if i am wrong but Anasta didnt come on until well into the second half, as i said its got me beat.

The young blokes in particular are great for 10 mins then drop away drastically - I don't know if it is an age thing but they need to bring more than that. And having to play Anasta robs the bench of a lot of effectiveness. That's the Braith, who doesn't kick, rushed in with a massively costly defensive error and can't make an effective run.

I'd have rather seen Groat there last night than BMM.

Hopefully with new trainers and coaches around him next season Potters use of the bench should be better. I tend to agree on BMM to to move on .

Agree mate,

I think at the moment, we just don't have the players to rotate properly,

Anasta off the bench, doesn't really add much, however, I still believe he can add value to out team somewhere, but can't see this happening outside the halfs,

Ideally, on the bench we will need 3props. Seeing that lock in today's game can easily be a mobile prop such as sue, Buchanan or gavett.

It leaves on spot, seeing that Fulton can drop into centers or hooker if needed, I think it should be a backrower who can add some starch, and ATM bmm isn't filling that void,

Does anyone have a solution?

Switch anasta and siro, shoulda been done in the bye week. Especially now that anasta will have to play halves with brooks next year i'm guessing.

Maybe siro will have to be dropped for a few weeks though, but it seems like he's being taught how to play 11 or 12 by potter while wearing the 7\. He said that he's been told to just run straight and run hard.

But I haven't yet seen him doing some of the other second rower stuff like decoys and kicker pressure. Maybe i missed it.

Actually ink no, it is not at all to do with using ALL players for max time and ability. It is dependant on the particular role they have in the team, far more to a players role than making certain amounts of metres and tackles.. The tigers do not have a big impact player to bring on ala watmough or fifita.. Anasta should be in halves sirro backrow, but that is not a bench rotation issue!

Well, BMM should be getting more minutes. 20minutes considering he made 10m a run, for 40m. He was obviously not ineffective. Maybe 30min would be better. But I guess you've got buchanan, woods, blair, sue who all need good minutes too.

Dunno what to do about anasta, i wanna switch him to 7 so he can play 6 next year better bu i have no idea what potter's plan for the halves is next year?? Brooks at halfback but who's 6?

Well should we drop BMM to reggies and give Groat or Farlow a crack. No point having him there to do 20-30 mins work and hjave no real impact or effectiveness. If he's not upto it, we need to move on with somone else. Hasn't dominated any game this year. Are we wasting our time with him??
